Which QB would you draft #1 in 2013 Draft?

  • Few other QBs I thought looked pretty good(mostly saw them only in bowl game action) that haven't been mentioned

Mike Glennon-ideal size, top recruit, helped NCState overperform in first season starting

Younger guys who had solid years last year and could go pro if they improve

    Tanner Price-WF
    Keith Price-WASH
    James Franklin-MIZZOU

If Tannehil(sp?) can be one I don't see why not. I really like what Coach Sark is doing up in Washington. I think the PAC12 may end up being the deepest league fairly soon with Washington coming back, Utah building, Leach going to WSU, Rich Rod and Rich Rod Jr at the two Zona schools, Stanford continuing to recruit at a higher level, and the UC schools always have potential as they bring in pretty good talent.

I kinda like Murray the best...I saw earlier in the thread that he is short? Living up here in Ohio I don't see him enough to really critique his game but it seems like he has all the tools to be very good at the next level....not sure his measurables

He's the worst IMO. I've never seen him progress through reads. If you stare down targets in the NFL you have no chance.

  • Today? Barkley. He has a high ceiling and all of the boxes are checked.

Murray is almost the exact same size as Brees. So not very big at all. He is a big talent, but like another poster said he is very up and down. If UGA does big things this year, then Murray won't drop past the 3rd, if we stink the place up, then I could see him going very late.

Right now I would say put them:

    Barkley
    Wilson
    Murray
    Smith
    Bray
    Jones
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -

    -
    Thomas

Agreed, while he's serviceable I think it would be foolish to waste any draft pick on him. He doesn't have the physical tools and hasn't exactly won very many difficult games.

He hasn't had time to. You may not have noticed, but our OL has really sucked the last few years and it is hard for him to progress through his reads when he is on his back and sacked by the time he gets to #2. When he gets a little time he is usually very good, but has a bit of an issue with trying to do too much and psyching himself out some. He has to get over that and show that he has this year.

    Nicolae

  • I rate them:
    1 Barkley
    2 Smith
    3 Bray
    4 Price
    5 Thomas
    6 Wilson
    7 Glennon
    8 Murray

Every play in this video is one route, and if it isn't there he breaks the pocket or eats a sack. His head only rotates when its designed in the play with a pump or an early look off. He's locked into that one route on every down.

Thats the difference between him and Barkley, who uses his feet to keep the pocket alive and uses the whole field/numerous routes per play.

Even on rollouts with a banana route, he can't progress. Either he can't do it or Richt won't let him.

Bray at 3? And who the hell is Price? Must be someone from A. West Coast or B. a bad team. I'm not familiar with that name.

  • I think there are some pretty big gaps between groups of QBs before the season. Barkley......Wilson, Landry.......................everyone else. I prob would have put RG3 in the everyone category before last season though.

Keith Price, UW. Went stride for stride with RG3 in the Valero No Defense Bowl.

Ahh. That's why. We don't get too many Washington games here in SEC country. My bad.

Auburn game is a bad example as their secondary is crap and Murray wasn't trying extensive reads because he didn't need to, just waiting on the CB to pull even with the WR so he can throw to the back-shoulder, something the AU DB's never adjusted to and we tore them up with it. Game was heavily scripted and Murray was looking for such a throw or pulling it down and running since their DL was good and got by our OL quickly.

BTW, I am not saying that he is actually great with reads and you just can't see it, I am saying it is hard to pass judgement considering the kid does not trust his OL. That is why he is so skittish and scrambles or gets sacked so quick. To the point that I know for sure in some games he really was only allowed two reads before he was to scramble or throw it away. If our OL is up to par this year, we may finally get solid evidence of whether or not he can read the field well. You might be right and he simply sucks at it, but I think it is more that he hasn't had much of a chance to develop that part of his game.

IMO, we don't know if he can't as in he doesn't have the ability or can't as in he has just done it so rarely that he doesn't think about it or doesn't do it on the rare occasion he does have the opportunity.

  • In CFB right now
    1.Barkley
    2.Wilson
    3.Geno
    4.Price
    5.Jones
    6.Glennon
    7.Murray
    8.Bray
    9.EJ
    10.LT

    As NFL Prospect’s IMO
    1.Bray
    2.Wilson
    3.Barkley
    4.Geno
    5.Jones
    6.EJ
    7.LT
    8.Glennon
    9.Price
    10.Murray

FWIW I think Zach Mettenberger (LSU) and Casey Pachall (TCU) are two guys who could have Cam/RG3 type rises this year.

Agreed. Murray at 8 is bad, but not surprising with the UGA hate on this board.

The real joke is Wilson at 6 and BELOW THOMAS. headslaplol TW is top 3 at worst. Bray at 3 shows how little the poster actually saw UT, TB hasn't played against a single decent defense in college yet...he has proven absolutely nothing at all.

Barkley at 1 is the only one close to right IMO.

Fair enough. I'm no expert and I haven't seen all of UGA's games, thats just what stood out to me in the games I did see. Murray also has some pretty nice tools, I just think that read progression is the toughest thing for a QB to learn. He might have it figured out before the season starts, if so you guys will win a ton of games this season. He will make some great passes (LSU 1st half dropped balls included), but they feasted on his single reads in the 2nd half. He will get pressured in the league as well, and he will need to keep the play alive with his feet while scanning the field or finding an outlet.

I like Bray a lot, but his mechanics seem to falter when he is pressured (arm slot drops/throws off of his back foot). Tons of potential there though, I think he should stay for his senior year and bulk up a little bit. Wilson brings a lot to the table, but I'm not sure if I like guys who constantly throw out of the gun.

All of these guys have something to work on, or else they would be Luck. Despite that, I think Barkley is at that NFL readiness because of his ability to create in the pocket, avoid negative plays and turnovers, and read defenses at the LOS. This is what makes Eli Manning so good, and thats who I think Barkley compares to. His height will be a knock, but we won't find out if it will hamper him until he hits the league.

Edit: I need to see more film of Wilson and Jones to make comments on them. OU/Arky always seem to play at the same time as USC or when I work. The draft game films on YouTube are pretty great if you guys are as big of nerds about this stuff as I am.
