I seriously doubt Stanford, UCLA, and USC had the exact same revenue as expenses. I don't think USC or Stanford release their profits, so I don't know where the department of education got this.

that would be very hard to believe as i was told UT donated over $4M to other area's within the university

Not only that, USC does not report any of it's lucrative merchandising profits (which it guards very closely - ask South Carolina) into the athletic department like the public schools.

For schools like USC the athletic program money is peanuts compared to what the university brings in everywhere else...when has USC ever hesitated about sending our players across the country? With our band? Or HAD to schedule more home games than away or out of conference across the country?

bama doesn't count illegal payments to players/families against the bottom line whereas tenn does.

Weak, try again

When you see that a school had equal revenue and expenses, it means that they really lost money on athletics and used their general funds to pay for the shortfall. Some schools show that shortfall as a loss, while others call the general funds that they use some kind of revenue. Neither way is wrong, as long as it is documented. But yeah, any school that breaks even is really losing money.
