Who are the Top10 Rivals in CFB? and Future..

  • "The Battle for The Old Mountain Jug" has been dubbed the best football rivalry you've never heard of by Sports Illustrated. It's been played between Appalachian State and Western Carolina every year since 1932 but didn't pick up the title until the 70's. It's really going to get good in the because in the offseason Western Carolina hired away ASU's top assistant coach for it's head coach and he brought like half of the Appalachian coaching staff with him. Last years game drew 35,000 fans. Not bad for 1-AA.

I'd say I'm homerish but not delusional. It's simply called "The Game" for a reason.

The OP is a Bama fan just like you are an Ohio State fan. Both of you think your team is involved in the #1 rivalry. How is he delusional and you're just a homer?

No- rite now it's LSU- Bama.. Never auburn..then Ohio - Michigan ! Never auburn!!

To an outsider Alabama-LSU may be a rivalry but to those of us that are involved it's Alabama-Auburn. Alabama has a significant win, loss record against LSU. Not so much over Auburn. Saban being our head coach is why some now view LSU-Alabama as a rivalry. LSU fans were/are bitter than Saban left for the Dolphins and then returned to college to coach Alabama. Just my opinion.

Many Bama fans don't even consider Auburn their biggest rival, citing Tennessee instead.

Try and find an Ohio State fan who doesn't think Michigan is Ohio State's rival.

I didn't say he was delusional, I admit I'm a homer but just don't think that I'm being delusional. Ala/Aub is passionate and I'll admit I've never been and to be honest outside of the Cam Newton game have never watched, just I'm sure you or the rest of the south don't watch or care about OSU/Mich. it's subjective and that's what makes college football what it is.

I agree with this except for the fact that alot of professional programs up north take up some of the bitterness..down here its 24-7 365 days a year! Alabama and Auburn are the only 2 teams in the state..no nfl, mlb, nhl, nba..its a lifestyle..just watch roll tide/war eagle

  • There really isn't a "top 10" CFB rivalry list. There are maybe 5-6 on the level of ND-USC, Michigan-Ohio State, Texas-Oklahoma, etc. After those, it's all about where you live.

  • Texas A&M - LSU will be a big time rivalry in the near future. They are going to move the game to Thanksgiving weekend plus we will beat those cajuns down.

  • Unless you LIVE the rivalry, you have no idea the dynamics or the passion in the hate. Nor should a rivalry be deemed the top because it involves two huge fanbases from large universities....or the burning, looting and thuggery involved when the two meet, lol.

That said, I think the tOSU vs Michigan is the "top rivalry"...they were national powers long before any of the others mentioned.

TCU vs. Texas could be good for the future, just depends on IF TCU can get better recruiting.

I think most TCU fans would say their rivalry with Baylor is bigger. They've played more games and it's actually competitive.

The population is much more, it supports our rivalry fine. We don't for the most part live with each other on a daily basis and that is probably a good thing, but having professional teams doesn't hurt it at all. We are talking about two of the biggest Alumni bases in all of college spread out throughout the U.S. I've done a Buckeye game on a Saturday and Browns game on Sunday many times. I know you guys think football is king in the south but it truly is a religion in Ohio at every level. I was raised to hate two teams....Michigan and the Steelers.

I did watch Roll Tide / War Eagle. It was awful.

If you want to see a good documentary on a real rivalry watch the one HBO did on The Game.

Yeah it's definitely 365 up here too. Michigan - OSU also has good teams outside of football, such as hockey and basketball.

I watch the Mich OSU game every year, always a great game no matter which team comes into it with the better team.

completely disagree, Mich and OSU are watched by the nation, Bama and Auburn are more regional. hell Georgia and Auburn have more of a rivalry, 115 games compared to 75 for Bama / Auburn. Sure it is in state hate between the two, but thats about where it stops.

Well, the number of games played would be more comparable if they didn't have to cancel it for several years due to violence.

I think UA-AU rivalry is more emotional. I don't really care about which is voted the "best" rivalry. I mean, OSU-Mich both have great tradition. Bama is holding up that entire facet by itself, so it depends on the parameters.

I was at the game the last time WCU beat APP St in Cullowhee. It might be the best game I have ever seen in person, WCU came back from a pretty big deficit in the 4th quarter to stun APP.

I get more pumped for Bama-UT in terms of rivalry. However, I guess it bothers me more ot lose to AU since I have to hear it year round. I dunno. Currently, the best game on our schedule is obviously LSU.
