Who are the most overrated players in each pro sports league

  • IrishImpact said...

Ever notice how Lebron only has ONE dunk when he's in the open court? #Windmill

And why has he been afraid to enter the dunk contest since he's been in the league?

Because the dunk contest is the dumbest thing in sports.

Fixed it my bad, both sucked though.

Yes I know Yankee fans hate to see him being picked as overrated, because he captained those world series teams, but how much did he contribute on offense since he has been in the league. He is a great defensive player, but average offensive player.

    He's actually the exact opposite

    LULZ @ Tebow being overrated!

The guy had 90% of the sports talking heads thrashing him all season. Overrated = people saying you are great, when you really are not. Aside from Bayless, who says Tebow is great(in the NFL)?

I agree with whoever said Brandon Marshall.

Go and read NFL.com, it has basically become TimTebow.com they can't write a single blog post without mentioning Timmy.

Hey Trojans, LSU's 74 are better than your 75.

  • So I guess there is no scale of relativity here or what?

Someone can still be a great player, perhaps be the best player in their respective league and still be overrated because they are not as good as they should be.

This just isn't true. Do I need to post his double pump reverse from this year? His windmill? His 360? He just gets so many dunks seems like he is doing the same thing all the time.

Did you watch the draft this year, because Tebows name came up a lot during the whole draft, and he has been all over the NFLs front page and all over the media here in florida.

Not living up to potential and being overrated are two different things.

Not that it matters much when determining his worth as a player but it’s because he’s afraid he will lose. He’s never been much of a creative dunker anyways, he always been a power dunker. Also because he’s gotten too big for something like that. At 250-260 he had a little more lift. Now at around 265-275 he’s lost a little spring and airtime because he’s bigger.

But who are we to say how good a player SHOULD be? Take Shaquille O'Neal for example. Everyone says he should have been the GOAT, but he didn't ''work'' hard enough. How does anyone really know how hard Shaq worked?

That makes sense. If anyone is a mental midget and would let the idea of losing enter their mind because of what people would say if you did lose it is Lebron.

Shaq’s lack of work ethic has always been sort of a known secret, and it was pretty much known to the public during the 04 finals. He should have been more dominant, but there’s no question that he was arguably the most dominating physical presence in basketball or maybe all of sports.

  • I don't see how LeBron can be considered overrated? What can he not do except get a ring? So if the Heat happen to win it all this year then he's not? Manning?? I live in Indianapolis and am a Browns fan but the Colts went from a playoff team with him to a team the Browns dismantled without him. Looks like to me hatred for players or teams blind their ability to accept greatness!! I have no problem saying Tom Bradey is one of the greatest to ever play. I don't think Jeter is overrated but I won't put him in the top 10 SS to ever play either. It's my opinion but during the 90's I'm glad and rather had Visquel at SS than Jeter with the Tribe. We had plenty of bats but Jeter can't hold Omar's jock when it comes to playing the field.

  • Based on the logic in this thread Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Lebron, Peyton manning, Dan Marino, Karl Malone, Ken Griffey Jr, Frank Thomas, Greg Maddux, Ray Lewis, Albert Pujols, Brett Favre, Pedro Martinez, and Jerry Rice are all overrated.

Known secret to whom? 5th all-time in scoring and 4 rings. Probably top 10 in a few other categories. What more do you think he should have done?

A lot of it, is having to live up to MJ’s standards though. It’s a lot of pressure for someone who’s been told you have potential to be the GOAT since you were a sophomore in HS.

If you are going that way then you have to look at a lot more guys then you mentioned. Guys like Jamarcus Russell who had massive potential are more "overrated" by your barometer.

Overrated is people overrate their abilities. Not matching their upside. Cuz guys like LBJ, Crosby are a lot closer to their upside then guys like Russell or Vince Young.

  • The Yankee hate is amusing. Jeter could end up with the 3rd most hits ever and people are saying he isn't even a top 10 SS of all time.

He should have been a more dominate defender and rebounder, and as a Piston’s fan there is no reason why they should have won that series. His weight was out of control at that time. It was a factor in him and Kobe beefing.

LBJ isn't GOAT, and won't have a chance to be GOAT unless he wins 7 titles which isn't happening.

Problem with sports people always trying to find the next one, let's just be happy with what we have. There will not be another Jordan, Gretzky, Woods etc.
