Who has an outside shot at the BCSCG?

  • Outside of Alabama, LSU, USC, OU, and Oregon, who would be your matchup in the BCSCG?

I'll go with FSU vs Michigan or Michigan St.

FSU has the talent, especially on defense to have a chance to win every game. If the offense takes a good step forward, this could be the year they make good on their high preseason ranking.

Michigan has a huge hurdle in week one and if they pull off the upset, they could carry that momentum all they way. Even with a loss, they could work their way back in as well, IMO.

Michigan St will have an even better defense and with that to go along with an outstanding running game, it could make up for losing Cousins. A long shot.....maybe, but they could set themselves up to not need his 4th quarter heroics.

Another one to watch out for is South Carolina. The only weakness on that team is the secondary. If they can beat UGA, they just need to pull off the upset over LSU to put themselves in position for a shot. A big IF, but doable.

    BetterOff

  • I would love to say Michigan, but they have to play @ND, @Nebraska, and @tOSU, to go along with playing Bama @Jerryworld. Tough slate.

Very tough. That's why I think an early loss can be easily redeemed as well though. If you guys show up and play well, I think @Nebraksa and @ND are very winable. The @tOSU game is going to be tough, but growing pains with a new system mixed with a subcontious letdown with no where to go, could play in your favor for that one as well. Of course it be argued by saying that one game is tOSU's entire season next year as well.

Urban had a ton of talent his first year at Florida and experienced some really tough growing pains that season and things look awful at times, but Miller is a little more suited to his offense than Leak was as well, so that could be a wash. Time will tell.

    BetterOff

  • I'll not pick FSU since they are my team.

    South Carolina and Texas.

USC has Lattimore who could totally carry them to an undefeated season and Texas has the talent if a few guys step up and become stars.

  • One of the "little guys" is going to get a shot before too long. Eventually everyone will have a loss or two and a school like Boise or TCU (before conference changes) is going to get a shot.

Urban led Florida to a 9-3 record and a win in the Outback Bowl his first year at Florida. The previous year Florida was 7-5 and lost the Peach Bowl.

  • i would say whoever wins the big 10 (wisc, um, msu) and is undefeated, or maybe 1 loss, has an outside chance...

bama and lsu will have 1 loss each, and usc might lose 1 too, but those teams with 1 loss would get the nod over a big 10 team with 1 loss...

i doubt any big 10 team runs the table so im going with usc vs sec champ, but to answer the op's question, texas vs fsu as my outside pick...

    a2brutus

  • No way UM or MSU go undefeated.

I like either UGA , FSU, or WVU vs. USC or the SEC champ, as my sleeper picks.

Michigan State rushed for less than 138 yards per game last year. That was good for 78th in the country and 11th in the B10. Indiana had a consistently better run game. Just sayin'.

It feels good. You know.... because our shot is greater than 0.00000000% percent.

Last year we had great RBs but a weak OL. This year we'll have very good RBs and a strong OL. Those numbers will be much improved.

Yeah, but that was with SEC speed.

so what am i missing on texas? they have been a huge disappointment, borderline abortion, since 2009. no flame...i know they have tons of talent, but what is up with the big expectations this year?

We feel our defense is gonna be better than last year and it was the best in the big 12 last year. we have 3 legit rbs and a cpl good wr if mike davis steps up. If ash can make progress and make good decisions and manage a game we feel we can do great things

It's a long way from being 78th in the country to having an "outstanding running game" capable of carrying you to a natty. It redefines the term dark horse.

Yep. They lose their 3 year starter at QB, their top 3 WRs including the all time receptions leader, their top TE, and their best Olineman.

On D they lose their best player, AA DT Worthy. It is weird what happens when you look at B1G play instead of games against powerhouses Youngstown State, FAU, and CMU. In B1G play they were 4th in total D, 2nd in rush D, and 9th in pass D.

I know that, but the offense was a serious problem year 1, although the defense was solid. I said that you had a QB that was more suited to his style than Leak so it was hard to say if the offense would have the same struggles or not year 1.

If Ash or McCoy can play solid and give the offense an identity again, Texas could be a dangerouss team this year for sure.
