Who has the talent to stop the SEC?

  • devidee said...

The Miami team Tressel beat in '02 was as talented (and could be argued more talented) than any SEC team of the current BCS era.

What happened in '07 and '08?

There have been five SEC teams win the BCS, no other conference comes close.

Ohio State didn't play in the '08 title game.

In '07 Ohio State ran into one of the best coaches of our era.

Yes my fault '06 and '07.

Urban is a great coach, no doubt, and you're welcome for guiding him to OSU.

  • Devidee your ignorance continues to baffle me. If it hadn't been Alabama kick ND's butt it would've been Georgia. I mean does some one have to remind you to breathe? Ohio State is a good football program But they are not and have not beat the SEC consistently. Hell urban Meyer couldn't beat Saban with Florida players what makes you think he is gonna do it with Ohio kids. Hell saban pulled a chuck Norris and gave urban meyer a heart attack. Quit hating and enjoy the games! Life is to short to be a jealous hater forever!

Lol you're foolish to think the SEC or whoever guided Meyer to OSU. If the Florida job and OSU job came open at the same time Meyer never coaches game 1 at Florida. His dream has always been to coach in Columbus. More like, you're lucky the great State oh Ohio loaned him to you.

Yes that UM team was extremely talented, it was also led by arguably the worst coach to win a NC in the last 30 or so years (Coker and Chizik are probably the 2 in the running).

Georgia got beat by Michigan State last year.

Bama crushing ND last night doesn't tell us anything about what UGA would have done.

    Great point.

    Coaches matter.

The SEC's current run is less about where defensive linemen grow on trees and much more about coaches.

And the practice of culling rosters. (But we're supposed to put that aside)

You're foolish if you don't think Saban is a huge reason why he stepped down at UF. Ohio didn't loan us anything either. Last time I checked, he's from WV, but nice try.

Alabama returned to form after close calls with LSU and Georgia and a loss to Texas A&M

I actually think the close calls vs LSU & UGA, and the loss to A&M were more indicative of their REAL team, than the blowout beatdown of a vastly overmatched and overrated ND team. Bama was a good team this year, but not great. Last year's Bama's team was much better than this year's. They just look much better having played a weak SEC schedue, followed by a weak ND team

Bama had to basically only play 3 good teams this year, and they won 2 on last second plays, and lost the other one. Had they played USCe and/or FL, I think they struggle as well (not sayng Bama would lose, but they would struggle like the LSU & UGA game). The weak schedule made them look like world beaters, but the games vs tough teams (LSU, UGA, A&M) are more of a measuring stick for this year's team.

ND had no business playing on that field last night, and Bama showed them why. Too bad LSU didnt get the benefit of a mulligan like Bama had last year, because we would have played a much better game... Hell, Ole Miss or MSST could have put up a better fight than ND!

ETA: Don't get me wrong, I think bama was/is a good team this year and I have LOTS of respect for that program... but it's just like all the earlier talk about them being able to beat an NFL team... it's all BS based on what they did vs vastly inferior opponents. We saw the real 2012 Bama team vs LSU, UGA, and A&M... they certainly are no "super team"

  • I just don't follow how any self-respecting Bama fan would go along with this pandering SEC narrative...

It's Bama and the 13 dwarfs. No team in CFB comes close. Bama vs GA last night would have been the same smoke show. Bama vs aTm 2? Same. Fool Saban once and savor the experience... Because it ain't happening again.

What OOC team could possibly compete with Mizzou, Arky, Kentucky, Ole Piss, MSU, Aubie, or Vandy?

ATM/FLA/COCKS... Good teams, but come on. They are nowhere near Bammy level. And they are not a 'cut above' any other major's top teams. Not on the field and not on paper.

Multiple top OOC teams have the talent to beat any team in the SEC not named Alabama. And that includes ND.

Urban did beat Saban, in his second season with a TD in the last couple of mins in the game. Again, Saban has outscored him 63-19 since, along with beating his most talented and best team at UF.

  • Everything is cyclical and right now the SEC defense is ahead of the fast pace offenses. But Aggy has laid the foundation of what the next wave of championship teams will be in a couple of years. Oregon was just getting started under Kelly when they faced Auburn but the new fast paced offense will be the style that will beat the current SEC defensive teams.

No conference will be better then the SEC on defense anytime soon, but the fast pace offensive conferences are just getting started and will be the next wave, or the best chance to beat SEC.

Oregon will be the next team to win the national championship outside of the SEC.

Because you are creating a false paradigm in which every SEC team is deemed equal simply based on geography.

    They are not.

Inaccurate. Did you see how many times I used the word elite before I said SEC teams and then said "in a championship game"- translation- I am not talking about Ohio State going to Ole Miss and getting whacked just because Ole Miss is located in the state of Mississippi.

Proximity is relevant in college football recruiting. That's a fact. If you are located in a good state for talent, chances are you are going to be pretty good. Case-in-point is your Buckeyes. LSU is good because Louisiana has a ton of good football players. Recruiting in this sport is more national in nature than it once was, but geography still matters.

USC being located in California certainly helps with the top kids from that state, don't you think?

There's nothing false about location being important with regards to roster building in college football.

  • Lol... I love how all these other SEC teams drink from the nipples of Saban and Miles.. And brag about how good they "all" are..Lol the SEC is very top-heavy and that's a very national opinion .. Doesn't mean the rest can't become "elite".. Bc lots of teams have the potential to get there nationally ... Saban is a beast of a coach.. That's the truth
