It's gonna be tough, but MMA and video games did it for me. I don't drink when i have to train for fights, and that's what gets me through it. Well that, and my girlfriend.

i have found out that i get more done at the gym when im not hung over. so thats a plus

thanks man. im contemplating going to AA. finding sober friends is going to be hard. my friends and i have all been drinking together/going out every weekend since the end of high school and start of college (so about 6 years) and thats all i really know. even my friends that i met at my college were mainly drinking pals. thats going to be the most difficult part, trying to find a social life. i dont even know what people in their early-mid 20's do besides drink

there are aa groups in your area that are full of young people. i thought it was gonna be old bums in trenchcoats but couldn't have been more wrong. i know people you see on national tv, doctors, lawyers, hotties...you name it. if you are alcoholic, it will get worse- never better. hate to be a bearer of bad news but there is life after alcohol. i couldn't imagine life without it befotre

  • Thanks. No one to blame but myself. Very costly too. If that isn't enough to quit I don't know what is. And I've done a lot of stupid tuff and embarrassed myself plenty without getting caught

  • I got sober at 30 (almost 2 years ago), and was in a very similar situation to you in that all of my friends were essentially drinking buddies from college, and even high school. No one in here can tell you if you're an alcoholic, that's something only you can know, but there are definitely groups that can help you. I went the AA route, and for me it's been life changing. My first football season sober wan't easy, but as time moves on it gets easier and easier for me, and at this point I can't imagine going back. This decision, should you choose to stay with it, will open your eyes about the friends in your life, and sometimes that reality hurts. The close friends that I've had since high school, are mostly still around, but I don't get the call to hang out that I used to get. I'm not going to delve too much into the specifics of any one program, but if you have any questions, feel free to message me. Best of luck in your endeavor.

  • I don't drink much anymore but I will sure as hell pop a few hydrocodones every now and then.

Helps my back and makes movies/games awesome.

I was getting hammered like 3-4 times a week and this past weekend was awful not going out. all my friends drink like mad men so i avoided them. my question is, for a young single sober man what on earth is there to do for fun?

I go to FSU, its impossible to be sober here...smh

Don't worry we all make mistakes. Most of my friends have a DUI.

  • Good luck. I don't think I could stop drinking for good. I have too much fun with my buddies as many others have said in this thread. I can drink a lot, but I don't do many stupid things.

You're going to have to find new friends. I thought it was funny when my "friends" would call and say hey we're going to this club, you down? Then you tell them no, I quit drinking. Then they never call again.

I basically took a month to get my ish together. Then I decided what 3-5 true friends I gave a shit about. Then I cut the extra "friends" out. I went the AA route to get sober(I had a severe problem), but I've been sober on my own without meetings for 8 years now(I'm 32). Couldn't be happier by the way, hardly ever even think about it anymore.

  • Personally, I never understood why people felt they needed to drink to have fun. To each his own, I guess.

I'm 26, soon to be 27. Only drank alcohol once - champagne on a New Years Eve. I've never felt the need to drink. And yes, this is coming from a Bills fan.
