Who was your biggest recruit that never panned out???

  • Definitely Kevin Grady for Michigan. Broke a bunch of Jerome Bettis's and Ty Wheatley's Michigan HS records, was supposedly pushing Mike Hart when he arrived (after Hart's 1400 yard freshman season), and ended up doing basically nothing for Michigan. He was big and strong, but had some of the slowest feet and poorest vision you could ever imagine for a RB. He would literally run into the OL that was blocking for him instead of finding the hole to hit.

Will Campbell didn't live up his 5* rating, but half of his career was sabotaged by Rich Rod and Greg Robinson. If he had been coached by Hoke and Mattison for five years (he should've been redshirted, instead RR burned his redshirt in 2009 so he could block on the FG unit), he would've been an above average player. He had a serviceable senior year.

Justin Turner is up there for Michigan, too.

I'll answer for you: Dayne Crist.

Just for starters. 5* Sam Young RT, 5* James Aldridge RB, Ethan Johnson DL most recent kids. Crist is definitely at the top. Matt Carefull transferred but never did anything. Clifford Jefferson is older kid that comes to mind.

Derek Williams was the number 1 recruit in the nation, certainly didnt play like it

You could argue Dwill. Gotta go with Anthony Morelli though. #2 Qb in the nation, and #12 overall. He was flat our HORRIBLE! His own worst enemy was himself, and possibly JayPa.

  • On another note, Roscoe Parrish was my favorite as every scout, coach, etc thought he would fail and all he did was return punts for tds, make people miss in space (he could make 4 people miss him in a phone booth) and have the guts to get back to playing after getting lit up by what I think was top 3 hardest hits I've ever seen against FSU in Doak. I couldn't believe how hard he got smacked.

  • Justin Ostrowski was a very highly ranked defensive lineman that decided to stay home and play for UW in 2003, but his career was just derailed by injuries and he never really made any impact on the field.

Most recently BJ Scott, but he was vital in landing Julio & others in the '08 class so I'll never be that upset he didn't pan out.

incorrect, BJ Scott played in the Senior Bowl (just didnt pan out at Bama).

the answer is Zo Lawrence the other 08 All-American CB. although he did get an invite to an NFL camp last year.

    Crimson_Ghost

  • we've had a few (BJ Scott was not one of them)

    08'
OT-T.Love,although in fairness he was behind three different NFL1st round picks(maybe 4)& Outland Trophy winner Barrett Jones* (Andre Smith,J.Carpenter,Cy Kouandjio**)
    CB-A.Lawrence(mental-case)
QB-Star Jackson (doomed the day AJ signed)

    09'
DT-Darrington Sentimore (led Vols in sacks in 2012)

Zo & Star lead the way hands down.

A lot of things went into that though, not all of them were D-Wheels' fault. He was also a lot more important to our program than just one recruit, he signified PSU's resurgence.

IMO the old staff didn't use him properly either, so the stats aren't all his fault IMO.

If we're going recently I'd say Eric Shrive. He's a great person and great to have representing the program, but to say he has been underwhelming would be an understatement.
