Who were the losers?

I would throw Texas in there simply because Mack Brown tried to explain his shortcomings by deflecting criticism.

But the Horns had the best OL class in the country and need OL.

Then again, they also desperately need a quarterback and failed to address it.

Watched the CBSSN Signing Day special today and Mack said this was his best offensive class in a long time.roflmao By the way saw 247Sports blasted the entire time with your ranking I believe. Why was Lemming in the studio instead of someone representing 247? Lemming get the nod for having better tv personality or looks?shrug Miami, Texas, West Virgina, and BC come to mind.

Yeah there was some talk they may get Moore, but I think that was just concern on the part of South Carolina after the Gamecocks didn't shut it down on the in-home.

    But...

Moore committed to Rutgers, got the SC offer, then de-committed....only to sign with Rutgers? Didn't add up. Think he would have never de-committed if he wasn't planning on switching in the back of his mind. Also, Vanderbilt finished second to RU and never felt like they were getting him and USF felt like he was a huge Gamecock lean after the Bulls did their in-home.

Muhammad could very well be a recruitable student athlete again next cycle, so it's not over, over.

Are you saying Muhammad won't get into Miami? What's the deal with his academic situation? I know we couldn't take him due to grades/classes. Did Miami sign him just to place him in JUCO?

No they got Tyrone Swoopes, but it was pretty obvious they needed another one.

Texas got their first pick at quarterback. Whether they chose wisely remains to be seen. They looked at adding a second quarterback late in the game (after Harsin left), but did not pursue either candidate very seriously. Not the actions of the school that desperately needs another quarterback. May have been obvious to you, but you're not making the choices.

  • USC Clemson MIami

USC--Lane won't be there much longer
    Miami--sanctions coming--understandable
Clemson--got raped by Auburn at the very end and complain Auburn is paying players (pot meet kettle)

  • I'm really not sure how people can say Miami. Yes, we didn't sign Reggie White and Jerome Brown. HOWEVER, we got Olsen, Muhammad, Coley, Burns. We only gave out 17 schollies as Golden restricted visits and offers. We've set ourselves up for whatever the NCAA lays down and EVERYBODY knows it's not gonna be that bad. Keep praying if you think that way. Yeah, we struck out on Collins, Bostwick and Thomas. AND WE FINISHED 17TH. If we land those three are we top 10??? If we did, then that's one of the best recruiting jobs in the history of football with looming sanctions (every school rumor this against us) and coming off back to back 6-6 and 7-5 seasons.

Seriously. 17th with all that shit going on??? Not that bad.

Frightening what Golden is gonna do when the smoke has cleared (pun intended) and these freshmen from last year and the year before grow up a bit.

One decent win this year and the days of the entire SEC going down to the 305 and taking who they want are over... We'll take whoever we want from here on out... that's of course the ones that can actually enroll in Miami.

Biggest loser to me was Texas and where the hell is Oregon in this mix???

USC I thought did well considering Kiffin is there. Yeah, they lost people, but once Kiffin is out, they will roll in the south cali kids there.

Mora in my mind was a big winner. Under the radar and he has something cooking out there....

I'm not positive, but they have maybe the second or third best record the past 5 years. Chip Kelly also had I think the best 4 year start in modern football if I'm not mistaken.

They have the number 1 backing with Nike in their back pocket. They're relevant to recruiting. Tell Kelly leaving really hit them that hard???

easy. you missed on a ton of kids in your area and then compounded it by pissing off a local high school coach in a very public and embarrassing manner. the lack of miami area recruits in your class is astounding. you only took 4 guys from miami and its surrounding counties in your class. we took the same amount as you did and USF also took 4. thats piss poor recruiting of the area you guys primarily rely on.

I said FSUe because when you get out-recruited by a school who has
Lane Kiffin as their coach, and a team that is restricted to 15 scholarships instead of 25
on top of having Kiffin, then it's an obvious fail for Jumbo.

    Either using this site's rankings
    USC 13 (4 & 5 star recruits)
    FSUe 10 (4 & 5 star recruits)

    or using Espin's rankings
    USC 9 (espn top 150)
    FSU 7 (espn top 150)

Either way you slice it, SC signed more "on paper" big time recruits than Florida St did.
Sad that FSUe has fallen so far that even USC on the 2nd harshest recruiting restrictions in
the history of college football, signs more quality talent at the top than Florida St did.

Plus FSUe's 2nd highest rated recruit is almost guaranteed to be a bust, at least
that's what many of the Florida St posters were preaching when he was a USC commit,
so maybe SC got lucky when Jillen Ramey flipped to the Noles. Maybe, we'll see.

  • I would definitely agree that we were losers this signing day. We were poised with opportunities at some top notch players and swung and missed on all of them. I don't believe the class was a failure because we don't need anyone at any position to come in and start right off the bat, but we definitely fell behind a bit with the rest of the top of the SEC. and fell behind a lot when comparing your perennial contenders. But we understand we are a couple years away so the fan base can come to terms with this.

Yeah times have not been good in Iowa City of late. That program goes in cycles, though. They will cycle back up soon IMO.

Pretty much this. Ferentz builds momentum and gets a decent class, then loses half of that class to defections and Iowa sucks. Then he gets them back to decent and does the same thing again. It's usually 3 up 3 down years.
