Who would you like to see replace Saban as HC at Bama?

Hopefully, we won't have to worry about his successor for at least another 7 years. If I was forced to pick someone, I would go with either Kirby Smart or Sal Sunseri.

I honestly think Sal would be a great HC and would bring in Kirby as DC...nothing would change

  • If that were to happen, then I'd understand the kirby hate. For him turning down a lateral move with no major pay increase, i don't.

If it's a "but we're georgia" mentality, than i comprehend it, since Bama had plenty of those guys.

Obviously I would rather Saban coach another 10 years but I would be fine if he gave us another 5.

So uga boosters are really mad that Kirby wouldn't make a lateral move? We're they expecting him to blindly go to georgia just because he went to school there?

I've heard this a couple of times, and it just doesn't make sense to me. Bama is at the pinnacle of college football, and he was supposed to go to an uncertain situation to help save mark richt's job?

I'm just curious about the truth. I have done great friends who are dawg fans, i don't leave near then anymore.

Not all of them, but the ones who were behind the push to get him interviewed, etc. were quite unhappy. And yes, those guys were expecting him to go to UGA, with a nice raise, not "blindly". The situation, especially at the time, really wasn't as uncertain as people acted. Richt had a pretty hefty buyout, and was changing the DC who most people thought was the problem (congrats Oklahoma and Auburn) so any incoming DC could be sure they had at least a couple of years to try and right the ship.

Todd Grantham seems to be doing pretty damn good, so I would hardly say that the situation was very bad at all, just that Smart apparently didn't feel up to the job. Grantham took the 38th ranked D the year before his arrival to #23 in his first year and #5 last year. I actually think we got the better end of the deal.

Honestly I couldn't be happier with the way things turned out and was never very high on Smart to begin with so don't take this as crap talk about him. I like him and think he is a solid DC and will be a solid HC as well. He may well get a chance to return to UGA as HC, but it won't happen very soon and it won't happen until he has proven HC experience. It boils down to hurt feelings of some of the people who helped make sure he got the first real shot at the job and that'll have to blow over before we take a real look at him again.

It's just about impossible to have this conversation right now when I think Saban still has another 5-10 years at UA. By the time he leaves, the coaching hierarchy in college football will look completely different than it does today. Now if he were to leave in the next year or two I would love to have Patterson.

Well ya, but there's no fun in not talking about it because its not a reality. And I'd be perfectly happy if Saban only had 5 more years left in him. That's at least 2 more NC's at the current pace.
