I am a registered republican, but it's really meaningless at this point. I believe in the economics but I cannot fathom anything as idiotic as neocons or the religious right.
My real word experience with liberal democrats is what soured me so much on the party. I went to school with Barbara Boxer's kids and Diane Feinstein's kids and know Nancy Pelosi's offspring well. I grew up with their families. The latter two are LOADED. If you opened their tax returns I'd guarantee you their avg tax rates would be lower than Romney's. Feinstein's husband runs a hedge fund for chrissakes. And Pelosi has made MILLIONS off of legal insider trading. And yet these are the same people that are crowing about "Wall Street reform" and going after Romney's Bain record. And just how many people in the Treasury are former Goldman Sachs partners? It's shameless.
A 3rd party is definitely needed but no idea how it could ever possibly gain traction. And FWIW I don't think you're generalizing.

Gonna take a moment here to plug Gary Johnson. His platform is:
- cut spending by 43% (eliminate the deficit by cutting spending)
- get out of Afghanistan and Iraq (thus cutting spending, see point 1)
- legalize and tax marijuana
- free criminals in jail with a petty marijuana charge (violent offenders obviously stay in jail)
- consolidate all taxes into 1, fair tax (so no social security tax, medicare tax, income tax, property tax, etc. you just pay 1 tax)
- separation of church and state
- gay marriage is legalized on a state by state basis
- close gitmoand others. Awesome candidate, IMO.

He sounds a little to radical for my tastes, frankly. Or rather, simplistic. If the cause is social I'm as liberal or rather libertarian as it gets - so I'm with him. But flat taxation is rife with problems, as is starting a shit storm in the Middle East and just walking away at this juncture. Bottom line is nothing that he wants would ever sniff getting passed so he'd be lame duck before even taken office.

Not even worth trying to explain it. If anyone thinks Jesus aligns more with liberals than conservatives(in the modern sense) they are beyond reason...thus being a liberal.
Edit:To be fair he would be independent IMO. Just because I think liberals are incredibly dumb doesnt mean I believe he is 100% gung ho republican

Taxes, gun rights and healthcare are three platforms I wholly disagree with. Some platforms I disagree with to a degree: energy and the environment, civil liberties, education, spending and the deficit. Platforms I mostly or wholly agree with: drug policy reform, immigration, and Internet and technology.

I hate liberals because everything they do seems to undermine the power and wealth of the United States. They have no desire to keep this country great, in fact they hate the fact it is and will argue to the death that this country is not a great country. If a group of people do not have the best interest if the country at heart they shouldn't be running it.
I am willing to debate topics like healthcare and so forth, but I could never support a democrat knowing that they don't like this country. They just don't, they claim they do when it's convenient but then will turn around and bash everything about this country, hell they have been telling is for years how awful the founding fathers are. Lol.
I just can't support that.
