It's not a simple answer. There's classical vs modern, cultural vs economic... But in the broadest stroke possible today it means that the treasury and the government are a means to the end. Whether that be health care, a 'living wage', jobs, etc... To that end liberalism advocates a larger, heavier handed government, higher taxation, regulation, etc. Liberalism is pro labor, pro union and is anti-corporate* (very much broad stoking here).
In even simpler terms, Liberalism advocates governmental intervention as a cure for societies ills. As opposed to conservatism that advocates personal responsibility.

No, the OP probably doesn't...That or just refuses to acknowledge it. Both parties suck and if you think otherwise you are part of the "problem". It is not just conservatives or liberals that are causing all of this country's issues. It is both of them.

Conservatism has become nothing of the sort. You are describing neo-conservatism (war) and the current state of the Republican party (religion). I don't even understand the point of your question. Are you trying to be cutsey socratic with me? There's a difference between bastardization and people too clueless to understand that there's a difference between conservative and neocon.
And "war-mongering"? You sound like an aerosol-huffing sophomore that's about to fail out of Wellesley. Or are you being ironic?

I cannot stand the constant assault from the liberal thought police. They take these extreme positions to completely marginalize any would be opposition, irrespective of how intelligent and thoughtful it may be, to win hearts and minds out of fear of being painted a - bigot, racist, earth hater, poor hater, etc.
They kill any would be dialogue by swinging to these idiotic wild extremes.
You didn't vote for Obama? You're a racist Don't think global warming is man made (in spite of mounting evidence)? You're an idiot and don't understand science Don't think we should have endless entitlements for everyone? You hate poor people Don't think private citizens should be forced to subsidize someone else's bedroom behavior? You hate women
Please. These positions of extreme are intellectually dishonest and contribute nothing. It's just an attempt to win your position through some scorched earth, white guilt, foaming at the mouth tactic.
I can vote for someone aside from Obama and still like black people. I can not want to pay for someone else's birth control and not hate women.
But don't tell a liberal that. I swear, they're almost as bad as Apple fanatics.

Why do YOU hate liberalism?
