Why do people ignore oversigning?

  • Over the last four years Alabama signed more then 40 more players the Notre Dame. Keep the best and cut the rest seems like a plausible explanation for domination.

    Does it feel that good knowing your winning with a stacked hand?

    How is it ignorant? Oversigning is a problem, and it does nothing but hurt the kids that get "processed".

    It's ignorant when 40 isn't the difference in the last 4 years. We have signed 105, ND has signed 81. This is including resigns for Bama...Quinton Dial signed in 2009 and 2011 because he didn't qualify. same for Belue(2010 and 2012). We also have had at least a dozen players leave early for the Draft, we have had several JUCO guys who were 2 year guys, and we had a player die before playing a single game. Simply ignoring circumstances makes one ignorant.

    The one thing I wish the NCAA would do is make all teams obey the same recruiting rules, and not just the 85 limit, I mean everything including a yearly limit and how EE's work. I don't blame the SEC for working within the rules, if the other conferences don't want to do that stuff, fine, but lets take away the choice and even out the playing field, to an extent.

    Bama just magically has way, way more of them than any other program in the country?

    Oh, I forgot. They practice really hard.

    There is no list of "cut" players because there are multiple ways to cull a roster.

    The one thing I'll give you Dev, that's the one question I want the real answer to. How can one school have that many more medical hardships?

More schools should do it.The unethical thing to do would be to toss them on the street and be done with it. Does Saban put a gun to their head and make them sign the waiver?

    Nothing wrong with medical hardships. The question becomes, why does Bama have so many more? Like I said above, that's the thing that makes me pause, maybe it's bad luck and a 100% legit.

    No. He tells them they will never play football at Alabama ever again, regardless if the injury may be career ending or not.

    If these kids want a degree from Alabama they have absolutely no choice but to accept the waiver.

    Accepting the waiver ends their collegiate athletic career forever. But hey, like you say, at least they aren't tossed out on the street.

    Bama can't give a medical hardship...only the NCAA can grant that. If someone has a problem with that rule, they shoudl take it up with the NCAA. They are the only authority for approving it. The onyl person that can initiate it is the player and it must be validated by a Medical Professional.

    I honestly don't know why this isn't used more often by programs. There are kids who deserve to be on scholarship who aren't in a position to play football ever again. There are others that might be less known and their injuries not as severe but they qualify and it releases them from their obligation to football and alows them to complete their education. Oh the horror!!

    That medical "professional" was employed by Alabama. There's no NCAA oversight in regard to reviewing the particular case. Basically, the NCAA rubber stamps it.

    Or maybe, Bama just practices really hard.

    I'm not saying you're wrong, but don't ever use the NCAA to validate something is legit, nothing is more crooked than they are.

Question--so when Urbs got to Ohio, why were there kids all of a sudden leaving or transfering or something? I guess god didnt speak to him about them???

  • So are you saying that underclass man shouldn't be able to leave for the pros or transfer for playing time? In most cases attrition is about a player realizing he's not going to see the field much and he leaves.
