Why do people put in a M in front of NC?

  • Is there a WNC for football?

Does W stand for Witchcrafted or Wacky?

Cause we all know that the reason there is an M is because its Mythical. Like Zeus or the Easter Bunny.

Well considering the format in which the championship is independent of this situation, I'd say GTFO with this politics BS.

    W stands for women.

m is for mythical because it isnt decided by a playoff.

English Premier doesn't have a playoff but settles it on the field with a home and away round robin. Their championship must be mythical too.

    This

For example USC won the title but Auburn went undefeated in the SEC back in 04'.... they never played each other

Who is the real champion ? calling a champ the MNC is like a protest of that terrible problem in this system

The champions determined in college football will be looked on the same way that NIT champions from the 1930's or those weird ass Princeton and Yale football champions from like 1910, if they ever get around to actually having games on the field determine a champion in this sport.

It will be considered a quaint, silly system that means nothing. And yes...its all mythical. Any time some geeks corrupt and biased computer program has more authority on if a team wins a "Championship" over actual games, means that every one of these trophies is a big future joke.

Yes...because those teams PLAY EACH OTHER.

College football teams do not play each other...yet we still feel that its justified to call one a champion, based on votes and computer programs. Its not a sport...its a debate.

In a playoff, not every team plays every team, so how do we know they are better if they don't play it out on the field.

Because in a playoff, you control your own destiny. If you win, you are the champion. There is nothing else that matters, except the scoreboard. Thats how sports should be played, by who is the better team on the field. Style points are for figure skating.......and college football.

So a World Series champion isn't really a champion because they didn't beat every team in the other league?

    False big boy.

    Say Division A
    Team 1:11-1*
    Team 2:10-2

    Division B
    Team 1:8-4*

Ahh man. Team 2 won but isnt going to be getting in the playoffs....

They still controlled if the got into the playoffs. They knew what they had to do from the first game of the season.

No matter what Boise State or TCU or Utah or Auburn or any number of other perfect teams out there in the past, had done during that season, they were never going to win that years MNC.

Thats the difference. Team two was in control of their own destiny from the first game of the season.

  • Owners of teams don't give two ishes about how the champion is determined. Playoffs=more games=more revenue.

I'm not saying the BCS isn't right or wrong, but the playoffs are not the answer either.

Unless every team can play every other team in a home and home, playoffs are the only legitimate answer in a sport like college football.

The reason I put an M in MNC is because if I dont, then I am giving support to the idea that the BCS or the old system was right. They are not....they are neither fair, nor good for football fans.....like myself.

Playoffs are not going to make CFB substantively more equitable.

Of course they will. Playoffs bring two things that we dont get now.

1-Better games..in a playoff we get more matchups between teams that never face each other otherwise.

2-The chance for actual upsets in the post season. When an undefeated Ohio State (A true blueblood program) beats an undefeated juggernaught like Miami, and THATS all you have to offer when you talk about upsets in the title game of the BCS, you know that you have problems in this area.

Sports is made great by better matchups and the possiblity of David beating Goliath.

There is a reason that stuff like Hoosiers was a great sports movie, and there has not been a great college football film or book ever made. There is no drama when Goliath faces Goliath every year, no matter what David does.

    EQUITABLE.

The same teams are going to win the championship no matter what system.

Even more so the larger the playoff.

By the way, it really doesn't matter because the five power conferences are going to leave and form their own division and no more Cinderella.

You dont seem to grasp the concept that if a large percentage of teams in college football have a ZERO percent chance of ever winning a national championship, no matter their success on the field, if there is a playoff, that increases that equatablity factor in an infinate amount.

You may be of the opinion that if there was a playoff or not, the exact same teams would have won the national title the last 70 odd years, but I am not buying that.
