Why do some fans cry if their team isn't ranked #1

I'm not too familiar with LSU, but what do their LBs and TEs look like?

  • Some of you will probably disagree with this, that's ok, but I am not sure why their is a coaches Poll Nationally. They are obviously the experts of the field, but they don't get a chance to see enough of the other teams play outside of their own conferences and even some inside their conference depending on divisional play. JMO of course.

    Who's crying and where?

As long as you're in the top 5 in the pre season and take care of business you'll be fine.

Any USC fan bitching about being #3 should STFU.

I haven't really seen any crying either except for one person. (Every fanbase has that guy. Or in aggy's case, they are ALL that guy.)

For me, I'd vote USC, LSU, Bama, Oregon, OU as my top 5, mostly based on how much each of those teams lost over the winter.

But I have no problem with LSU at #1. You can make a reasonable argument for any of USC, LSU, or Bama as 1,2 3.

That is some funny, funny isht right there

Were all those guys hurt in the Title game?

No matter, as a USC fan, I was happy to see us at Number 3

Still a young team, so let Bama and the Corndogs fight it out in another 6-3 puntacular and head into the Orange Bowl all over confident and isht

  • I've got no clue. Honestly when I watched yall I normally focused on Honey Badger, cause dude is called honey badger. That's pro potential too. They show Hankins going fourth overall, and he won't be our best d-lineman this year that's going to be Simon.

MIngo and Montgomery are our strengths.. Our 2 DE's.. In every Mock i've seen they are both in the top 10 and 15.. Now I know mocks are subject to change but those 2 guys are going to murder people this year.

Anyways, we'e just splitting hairs when it come to the top 3 ranked teams. All 3 are great, great teams that can all beat each other any given day. Bama did lose 7 starters on D and the last time that happened they lost 2 games, the Michigan game will tell a ton about Bama.

So agree to disagree to all who may not like LSU at the top.. It really doesn't matter, the best teams will meet in January.

USC fans- what kind of depth do y'all have on the D-line?

4 and 5 stars getting their first real shot at playing time for the most part.

I feel good about the DL. I assume these guys will play well in the same way I assume the new guys on D will play well for Bama.

There will be a learning curve for the new guys on both teams, but top talent and top coaching will result in success for both.

    Losing Kennard hurts a lot
We have good depth, but it is largely untested
Loads of talent, with quite a few potential first or second round picks, but very young

W don't have any true green horns on the D-Line, now we do have 1 in the secondary who will have to play HUGE for us.

    Thanks for the reply.

All good. I enjoy intelligent conversations with fans of other teams.

Are you concerned with how long it will take your new guys on D to get up to speed ?

McCarron showed in the NC game that he can make plays. You might need him to carry you in some of the early games, specifically vs Michigan.

That's going to be an interesting game for outsiders to watch.

    SC's starting DL should be...

    DE Wes Horton 6'5" 260
    DT George Uko 6'4" 290
    NT Antwaun Woods 6'1" 310
DE Greg Townsend Jr. 6'4" 265

Like others have said, the talent is there, but other than Wes Horton, it's very inexperienced.

Yes. That is probably why. Lots of returning experience at LSU.

And your point in the other thread about the SEC's NC run giving them the benefit of the doubt in a pre-season poll is a good one.

(Having 1/3 of the voters being from SEC schools or smaller schools in SEC states (Tulane, Middle TN, etc) doesn't hurt either. lol)

    //

But I agree with your take that these three teams are a cut above everyone else, and that each has a flaw or two, with all being capable of beating the other.

Bama's new guys on D, USC's DL and LSU's QB can all be used as reasons to say that particular team won't win it. But all three teams have so much strength everywhere else that it easily offsets those question marks.

I consider that really good size. That is about perfect for a 4-3 defense IMO.

@Traveler- I am concerned with 1 dude on D, that will be our brand new corner. It will be either our transfer Juco dude(Belue) or our RS Junior(Fulton) both were 4 stars, but have limited in game experience, or none at all for Belue. All the other guys on D have either started, or played good minutes in multiple ball games.

I want us to open our game up just a hair and throw early to build our receiving corp's confidence early or else we will have trouble against talented corners.

+1... Good post my man. All I know is that our OL and DL are 2nd to none in the country this year.. It's going to be a fun season to watch, I can't wait.

It's crazy we have literally 5 RBs who are all outstanding and I don't know which one is the best or the worst.

Defensive line I definitely agree, but I like our O-line. 3 potential 1st rounders this year(That is a very unlikely scenario though) and another 1st round guy in Cyrus the Virus.

The talent is there. Wes Horton has a lot of starts and is solid. George Uko has been brilliant as a reserve. He had a killer game against Washington. We have another good tackle in J.R. Tavai. He saw quite a few snaps last years as a true freshman. But the other guys are inexperienced.

LSU fans are fond of telling us how much better their D-Line is than ours and I concede the point, but our defensive lines will not play against each other. We have a talented, experienced, deep offensive line. The statement that LSU tops USC at every position but QB and WR is a joke; USC would easily take 3 of the top 5 OL between the two.

I didn't realize everyone else had played a good amount of minutes in other games. The learning curve is going to be shorter than I thought.

Opening up the playbook would definitely be a good strategy though. With that OL and your RBs, having the D even a bit off balance would really pay off. It worked very well vs LSU.
