    Right, but the POTUS staff was out there all the time too. It was used as another WH. Still more expensive than just staying in Washington, but not just a vacation for Bush. My understanding is that he didn't care much for DC.

    They also used it to host foreign leders on several occasions etc. relocating your work is not the same as being on vacation.

    Official visits and trips are very common place. FLOTUS are always on trips to places for foreign relations, charity work, educational institutional talks.

    The modern FLOTUS has evolved into a very prominent figure head as compared to the house manager and party manager of the old days.

    It's a $14-15 trillion dollar deficit. Just saying, that as someone who is fiscally conservative, I'm more concerned about long-term stability of social security, universal health care, etc, than the spending habits of one woman.

    President is never on vacation....ever. FLOTUS's are a different story. And work is work. And working from home is different too but every president does it, lol. I have no problem with any president not being in DC. They can get just as much done in Crawford or Hawaii as DC. But their wives shouldn't be touring the country on the taxpayer dime.

  • For one thing, I don't think that $10 million number is right.

    For another, the President and his family are entitled to free use of Air Force One whenever.

    Also, their allowable travel expenses are not that high, and they surely wouldn't exceed them, especially not in an election year.

    Finally, Bush was chillaxin' down in Texas all the d*mn time while other sh*t was going on. Really?

    A) not "touring"
    B) presidents have been on vacation before. The work done on vacation or at camps/homes is not the same as work done in WH or official meetings and other shit the president does.

    The trick is mixing charity work and official business for the First Lady with campaigning for her husband.

    Or making her official work campaigning. Most First Lady's have done it and every President has done it.

    No but her transportation and security is paid for by the taxpayers.

    Quit making excuses for her she shouldn't be traveling for non official business unless she is paying for it all. And neither should any of the other first ladies. It's not okay for her to do so just because the others did.

    There are reasons that the FLOTUS,cabinet members, staff etc. have security and fly on non-commercial flights.
