Who thinks Mullen is good? Jury is still out on him. He hasn't done a whole lot, but look at the situation he walked into. What is interesting to me is how Dooley, who walked into just as bad a situation, doesn't get cut nearly the same slack as Mullen.

Chizik, like Urban Meyer who taught us this lesson, needs to do something without a dominant player in order to really get respect. Outside of the Cam (Tebow) year/s, he hasn't really impressed all that much at times even arguably approaching dumpster fire status. In addition, is a defensive coach that hasn't really produced a great D since he has been at Auburn, mediocre in general to be honest.

Gene's NC should put him higher than Mullen on any list, but it isn't gonna get near the top of it. He is (currently) clearly the better coach, but I wouldn't have him in my top5 coaches in the SEC. Mullen is closer to 10 like Turn2 was saying, if even that.

Phil Jackson and Belicheck are/were looked at as the best in the biz.

One had MJ, Kobe/Shaq, and the other has Brady.

Imo, from a coaching stand point, its all about getting the most out of your system through the talent level of your players.

Be pissy about it if you want, but that is the way most people look at it. Cam, Tebow are beyond the typical "star player" and having them costs the coach some credit, fair or not. The question was "why does everyone consider" not "why is", implying that he wanted to know about people's opinions, not what they thought about facts. People's opinion is that Chizik is an average, but lucky, coach (CUM too) that greatly benefited from a single player that could take over a game, ala Herschel.

Speaking of, would Vince have won without Herschel? HELL NO, not even close, and his legacy as a coach suffers for it. Having a player that could take ANY decent/good coach to a title hurts any coach's case.

When a supposedly defensive HC gets blown off the field by his 3 biggest rivals in a season (45-10 @ LSU, 42-12 vs Bama, 45-7 vs UGA) it merely does further damage to his rep. He can't even get his side of the ball in order, what hope does the team have?
