You had just better hope they don't fake the process of taking a 3 and the ref gives it to them. It is a risk, but I would rather give them the chance of chucking a contested three than possibly fouling during the shot motion.

If they count fell within the first second of an inbound, than don't do it, too risky.

I would rather take my chances with a 40% 3pt shooter, than a 80%+ FT shooter 3 times. It is pretty easy to or fake a shooting motion.

I think fouling is the right move. Obviously, situations differ so if there were under 3 seconds and the opponent was going to be catching and shooting immediately, don't foul. If some guy has the ball and is nowhere near shooting range or is not close to set to shoot yet, foul him. If your players aren't retarded and do it right then you should be ok. Of course, there is the possibility that the FT shooter makes the first, misses the second on purpose and they get a tip in or rebound and another shot...still, that is less likely than hitting a 3 point shot.

I'd have my guys foul if I was the coach. If Calipari had done it in 08 then they would have probably won the national title (only to be stripped later) and they had a perfect opportunity to do it.

Th NBA made a new rule this year that you can't do that foul and jack up a ball for 3 and get 3 FTs.

yea especially in the NBA when you can advance the ball. There is a reason almost no one does this.
