Why recruits don't matter as much....

Show me in the 70's where teams like kent st and san jose st were ranked. They weren't and in 10 years, they'll be top 10 teams. Even Elway as great as he was didn't have a GREAT Stanford team. Now look at those "smart" guys...

    1. DvD hit it with he 25/85 rule in affect today
    2. the slub teams you mentioned are in the Top 25 do to a somewhat flawed computor aspect of the current system.

the computor's cant see Kent State actually on the field , i can.
how good are they ? well they lost to SEC doormat Kentucky 47-14. not 17-14 you heard ir right the 1st time....47-14. blackeye

or the politically corect response :
their is a huge disparity between the top 8-10 and the lower half of the Top 25 and beyond. the 25/ 85 has improved the odds from
the 70's for the little teams. from 0 to apprx 15 % chance. shrug

  • I think kent st has more less better players than Kentucky.

Apples and Oranges. In NCAA basketball the best players are never there for more than one season and that's because they have to be. The days of elite players staying until their junior years are long gone. The playing field has been leveled more so in basketball than it has in football because of this. That's why you see Butler making it to back to back final fours. They have 21 year old guys that have played in a system for 3-4 years and don't have the attrition that the UNC's & Kentucky's do. Boise St & TCU have been the only exception to the rule in college football and that's because of superior coaching, not equal talent.

Butler had two guys that play in the NBA.

Point is, the talent is BEYOND abundant.

ALOT more bowl games ALOT less schollys, big teams can't stock pile talent like they used to...that's a more better fact than yours!

You're wrong. Show me the number of people that lived in the United states in the 70's, 80's, 90's and today. There are more people.

Here's another reason you guys are forgetting...

How many football camps were there in the 80s??? LOL!! How about 7 0n 7? How about elite camps? How about qb camps? How about the training in pop warner? How about football clinics for coaches?

LMAO!! If you guys don't think there's 1,000s of more players out there that can ball out, you guys are all drunk, stupid or from the south.

BYU, Navy, Southern Methodist, Pitt, Yale won a bunch in the late 1800's to early 1900's. Fordham won a national title in '29 and was considered a powerhouse during those years. You could even include Miami on the list of has been powerhouses from recent memory who are barely average currently.

My point is... things change. Don't read too much into it.

I'm talking from about the 70's on. That's actually when football was hitting on all cylinders as far as recruiting and the 80's was when there was an open door policy to recruiting black kids to white schools, out of state MAJOR recruiting, etc... You can't look at Army in the 20's and say that compares to today.

You want a list of the QB's in the NFL that didn't play at BIG TIME programs???

Peyton Manning is one. Tom brady is the other (doesn't count drafted in the 5th round and chip on shoulder)

Show me all the great texas and alabama qbs in the NFL. how about Ohio state, FSU and Florida???

LOL!! You think these guys aren't talented??? I guess Drew Brees and Aaron Rogers suck. They went to Purdue and Aaron started in a JC. Why wasn't Brees at Michigan or Texas and Rogers at USC???

how's carson palmer and Mark sanchez in the NFL? How about matt leinart? Where are these great qbs from Penn St, Oklahoma, Notre Dame??? (jury is still out on bradford)

    CoachGomez214

  • btw, 4 of the top 10 rushers in the NFL went to shit schools. You want me to keep going with receivers, etc...

Please, wake up and smell the coffee

    CoachGomez214

  • this isn't one or two. It's 40% of the top 10 rushers. So when will you guys believe there's more talent out there??? When it's 90%??? LOL... cmon man, you guys are in denial.

    CoachGomez214

  • It's the same thing when I said in 95 that the rest of the world is catching up to us in basketball. My friends said quote unquote, "as long as the NBA guys play, america will never lose." That's just stupid. You wanna see how many foreigners play in the league now? There's more better players. Back in my day, it was Detlef Schrempf and that was it! Now EVERY team has guys from around the world on it.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE A GREAT STAFF TO WIN, PERIOD. There's too many guys out there that can play now....

    CoachGomez214

  • 6 of the top 10 in receivers including 2 from georgia tech. Last NC was 90, 22 years ago with no big wins to date in a bowl past that. That's 60% of the top 10 receivers in the league are NOT from Texas, Alabama, Notre Dame, Penn State, Georgia, etc...

    CoachGomez214

  • 6 of the 8 qbs on the pro bowl roster DID NOT go to a big time program. Only Tom Brady and Cam Newton are the exceptions.

How good is RGIII? What about Luck? Not exactly traditional powerhouses in football, but they now beat teams like USC and Oklahoma on a consistent basis.

Um no dude, actually that's the reason they put in the schollys limit isn't it? I have no idea where you are from but I would imagine its a place where "more better" is used alot, and even we make fun of that here I the south...thanks for playing...quit trying to reinvent the wheel, and 20 years ago a 7-5 team probably isn't going to a bowl game. Your just wrong or everyone on this board is retarded except for you

Didn't elway go to that school 20 yrs ago??? Tell me this BrainPower, Phil sims, terry Bradshaw, John stalworth, Howie long, Jerry rice, Steve McNair, deacon jones, warren moon, John riggins, Brett Favre many more you can list...I think riggins is the only one that went to BCS school...talent has always been at small schools, now with the schollys limits you can put decent peices around them...he'll BYU won the NC 30 years ago didn't they? That wasn't a power by any means

  • You need players AND coaching.

If your coach isn't worth a bag of broken dicks (Jimbo Fisher, Gene Chitstick, Lame Kiffin, Mack Brown, etc) then all the recruits in the world won't make a turd.

But, if your players aren't worth a bag of broken dicks then you look like Wake Forest or someone.

You need both. I thought everyone already knew this.
