Will Ole Miss Enter 2013 Ranked in the Top 25?

  • Come next August, will Ole Miss be ranked in the top 25 preseason poll? Coach Hugh Freeze has done a remarkable job both coaching us to a winning season with a bowl win over Pitt and in recruiting. We were 7-6 to finish the season with nail biters against Texas A&M, LSU and Vanderbilt.. all in which we had the lead in the 4th quarter but ended up blowing it. That's a team that had potential to go 9-3 this season in the SEC.. I know, I know we didn't I'm just saying we should have and we proved that we did have that kind of potential. With nearly everyone returning for not just this coming season but next as well.. we're bringing back a lot of experience and with the recruiting class we're expected to have.. does that put us in the top 25 preseason poll? IMO we start out ranked in the 20-25 range.. just wanting to get a little feedback on what other's outside the Ole Miss fan base has to say about this. TIA

I say we start out at about 23 or 22 IMO. I also wouldn't be shocked to see us picked to finish 3rd or 4th in the west with all that Lsu is losing. I say definitely start out ranked because this team has a ton of potential and expectations will be high

    Cg87

  • Yes. I have them at 4th in the West with a very good shot at 3rd. They need to close strong in recruiting first, though. Robert Nkemdichie. Carl Lawson, Laquon Treadwell, Kailo Moore, Tony Connor, and maybe another JUCO would lay the foundation for an SEC West run in the future. That class would be sick. I really hope it happens.

I don't know if they will be ranked that high to start with, but OM will be there at the end. I honestly think the West may be decided by the OM/ aTm game.

  • yes, There were a pretty good team this year and I expect them to go 8-4 at a minimum.

  • No, I don't think arky and auburn will be as bad this year.

2nd year in that Freeze O is gonna be a tough cover. They're filling holes on that D. Lavon Hooks, C Ward and Nkemdiche will be a beastly DL.

The D is going to be on par talent wise with anyone in the SEC.

    Ward
    RNK
    Gross
    Hooks
    Reed (As of right now)
    CJ Johnson
    Sawyer
    Snoop Brassell
    Gohlston
    Conner
    Elston
    Denzel NKemdichie
    DT Shack
    Cody Prewitt

A bunch of high 4 stars and 5 stars on that list. Most of those kids will play on Sundays and a few may be good enough to be drafted in the first round. That doesn’t even mention that we have legit shots at Lawson and Daniel to possibly put on that line as well.

    SameoleReb

  • i think OM will be somewhere in the 23-28 range

    solid lineup.

Lawson's Dad didn't mention OM in his latest interview as a possible visit. Not saying it won't happen , but according to him it was Clemson this weekend, probably UTenn and AU, and possibly UNC. He even mentioned USC as a long shot visit. I consider Clemson the biggest threat now.

as much as we all want to believe that many of the players on our respective teams will play on Sundays, the reality is that only a handful (2-4) ever make it.

Possibly. I have never really been sold that Lawson leaves AU. I dont think Clemson because of the fact I think Lawson wants to Play in the SEC. I think TENN and OM are the biggest threats to AU.

ND wasn't ranked to start the season..... So when Ole Miss plays Bama, they'll lose by 40.

    25-30ish IMO.

? We play Bama every year. We actually lost to them by 19 this year and beat them in the second half. Moral victory I know, but most def not by 40. Our O gives Bama fits. Its the same reason A&M is not a good matchup for them and why Oregon would have given them a hell of a game if not beat them.

Lawson Sr. said his son’s other visits haven’t been set up yet but they have four other schools they’re still considering.

“He’s probably going to go to Tennessee. He’s contemplating taking another one to Auburn and possibly North Carolina,” he said. “He still talks about USC but I’m not sure if he’s going to do that.”

Who is touting it? He simply stated thats who we beat. Pitt also played ND to 3 OTs (not that it means anything). OM would have beat PSU by 3 scores guy. With depth, we would have also beat A&M, LSU and Vandy this year (all teams with 9+ wins in the SEC).

  • Ole Miss fans, could we get a projected starting lineup for your 2013 team when you get the chance? Thanks

He said "Coach Hugh Freeze has done a remarkable job both coaching us to a winning season with a bowl win over Pitt and in recruiting." He was certainly touting the Pitt win.

I don't care how you would have done against PSU. It has nothing to do with the statement at hand.

Regardless, if you think OM beats PSU by 3 scores at the end of the season (they may have at the beginning of the year, but PSU greatly improved), I can't say I agree. I don't think many non-OM fans would agree either. You beat Arkansas by 3 and lost at home to Vandy.

Since you apparently love the transitive property with your Pitt thing (using the transitive property is almost always a waste of time), Vandy lost to Northwestern by 10 and PSU beat Northwestern by 11.

EDIT: Scratch that beginning of the season thing. You would have beaten us probably, but not by 3 scores then either. You couldn't beat a horrendous UTEP team by 3 scores and barely beat an above average FCS team by 3 scores (22 points).

I don’t like the transitive property at all. However, you used it to point out that Pitt lost to Youngstown State, so I had to counter it.

Projected Starting Line ups for OM

QB- Bo Wallace JR (Brunetti and Devante Kincade)
RB- Jeff Scott SR (Depth of Dodson, Mathers, Walton, Barber)
WR- Donte Moncrief, Sanders, LaQuan Treadwell (Depth of Logan SR, C. Moore JR, K. Moore FR)
TE-Christian Morgan FR, Jeremy Liggins ATH FR (Miller?)
    LT- McCray SR
    LG- Morris JR
    C-Swindall SR
    RG- Junen? SR
    RT- Burton SR

DE- Robert NKemdiche FR / Ward Soph (Whigham SR, )
DT- Hooks JR, (Bennet JR, Martin JR,)
DT- Gross Soph (J. Reed Soph, Moore FR)
DE- CJ Johnson JR (Daniel ?, R. Williams JR)
LBs Marry SR, D. NKemdiche Soph, DT Shackalford JR (Prewitt? JR)
CB- Snoop Brassell JR, Sawyer SR, Gohlston JR
S-Prewitt JR, Conner FR, Elston Soph

That's true, I did completely forget I used it first. That's my bad. As for the three scores thing, I still think that's a crazy homer thought. I think most PSU fans think PSU wins and most OM fans think OM wins. Don't think anyone really thinks it would be a 3 score game looking objectively at how both teams play.

Dude, I wasn't touting nothing.. who did we beat in a bowl? Pitt.. plain and simple. Most experts expected us to do the same thing we did last year with maybe a win or two better.. we defied that. No one's touting a win over Pitt.
