Will someone (other SEC guys) explain the 25 Signee rule?

My schollie was the same way on the academic side. Maybe the athletes have something written in their scholarships that say if you keep a certain GPA that you still get to keep your scholarship though. You would think they would have something like that.
Whether they do or not beats the fvck out of me. I don't know how you say that you aren't "doing your part" and yank a kids schollie for athletics. Seems like a slippery slope.

Well of course they have to pass so many hours, but it should not be guaranteed regardless. You have to earn your way.

Actually thanks for the info UGA fans. At least I have an answer for my buddy tomorrow when it comes to UGA. I also have no idea what A&M's situation is either. They could very well be in the same boat as you guys. Impressive fvcking year for UGA if you really only had 69 players on scholarship though.

I'm not sure I agree with that. A kid signs an athletic scholarship and busts his ass on the field and just doesn't pan out, and you just want to yank his schollie and throw him out of school?
Especially if the kid has say a 3.0 or above academically. Just doesn't seem right to me personally. You would think the institution could at least transfer the scholarship over to academic for his effort. Now if the kid is making shit grades then I'm fine with what you are saying.

I agree with you on the athletic side. I'm just saying that if a kid just doesn't pan out athletically for you, but is making his grades, that the school should at least keep them on scholarship in some capacity for their commitment to going to your school and busting his hump in the first place.
Now if he isn't working in the classroom, that is a completely different story. If he's out there getting arrested and doing dumb shit, again a different story. I'm just saying that I would hope that schools would at least allow the kid to remain on scholarship academically if they are making their grades and just weren't good enough to make a difference athletically at a program like Bama on the field.

We did have some quality walk-ons that got schollies because we had them. But they probably won't retain them.

I like the latest tactic being used by an SEC school or schools. Offering kids you want in this years class a scholarship in 2014 if they pay their own way this year or does that fall under gray-shirting?

You can still greyshirt. I've only heard of one or two kids (tops) taking those deals, but obviously some schools are talking 5-6 kids into taking them. I suppose if the kids want to go that way, then god bless them.

UGA has done it for a while. That is the only one that I personally know of but that certainly doesn't mean that it's the only one.
