Willie Martinez probably getting hired at Auburn

I know he wasn't a very good DC but I think he is a solid CB coach and recruiter. What do you guys think?

I think the same as you. Terrible DC but you can't argue what he's put into the NfL as a DB coach. Have no clue how he is as far as recruiting goes. Don't think it matters.

I kinda agree with aumajorpain. Anyone with a name is an outstanding hire for what's been a terrible defense. Chizik should be ashamed of himself for letting the position he knows so well get that bad. Martinez sucked as a DC but he was good at Georgia and I think he's been average at OU but that's a major upgrade over Lolley.

Assistants matter everywhere. Nick Saban can't be everywhere and while he does a great job with his delegation, it's his hiring of the assistants who he knows will be an asset that goes a long way

Let's be fair. Ted Roof sucked as a DC at Auburn. I wouldn't say that CWM sucked at UGA while he was the DC. People always remember the last year but he fielded some good defenses while he was DC and I think he is a solid secondary coach. 2005-2007 he was actually really good. His defenses the last 2 years as DC are what cost him his job.

He was not aggressive. Van Gorder was. That's why Georgia fans hated him. I think since you have both, like Georgia did, it's a major upgrade and home run type hires. That said, Georgia had much more talent and depth than Auburn has at the moment so until toe meets leather it only looks good on paper.

If Auburn fired every assistant and only kept Vangorder while not replacing any of those fired, it would still be better than last years staff.
