With Maryland and Rutgers now officially to B1G...

  • Who is next? Big 10 also want UNC and UVA? SEC want VT and NC State? Big 12 want FSU and Clemson?

    Also, I'm reading on a Pitt message board, that Notre Dame is going to join the ACC full time, and this will make PSU leave the B1G for the ACC. Oh, and the ACC will get Texas.

    Yes, this fanbase actually thinks these things.

  • Personally I don't see them stopping at 14. They are going to probably add two more to be the first 16 team conference and also hopefully re-align the divisions. My guesses would be UVA and GT are two targets.

  • The ACC is being drawn and quartered right now. I am full of fear we get left in it. Luckily with the other conferences going to at least 12 but SEC and B1G to 14 I believe the Big 12 will move back up to 12 and I truly believe we will be in it.

  • The B12 and the SEC do not have the appeal that the B1G does. Why would a team leave the ACC for the B12 or the SEC?

    Many would disagree. Texas is down and that hurts. Add FSU and Clemson lets say to OU, Texas, OSU, etc and it's right there with the B1G as America's 2nd best conference.

    Sure adding the top teams from any major conference to another would make it a tougher conference. Maryland went to the B1G. Did it make them a tougher conference nope? Did it help Maryland on the football field where they are 4-44 against B1G teams? Nope. It is about the $ and the B1G has more to offer than either the SEC or the B12 and it is not even close.

    In the last year the ACC added the biggest football draw in the country for 5 games a year and lost Maryland. I think they did ok.

    Naw, man. SEC and Big 12 don't have the appeal that the ACC has, even though both make a lot more money than the ACC. Also, the Champions Bowl. You know, that BCS Bowl game that the SEC approached the Big 12 about instead of the ACC?

    Not for long. The SEC network will start in 2015 and that should bring in an additional 25-35Million a year per team on top of what they already get. The money gap is closing bc we have a better product right now. I would not be surprised, if the SEC expands correctly (Getting NC and VA markets) to see that number increase to 50+Million per school

    No, they didn't. Only 2-3 of those games a year are home games for the ACC. That just doesn't bring much incremental money when spread over 14 members. It's a rounding error.

    Until the other conferences can compete with the educational monies of the B1G with the CIC then they are all a distant second. The ACC is working toward their own CIC but it will be several years before it accomplishes much.

    CIC universities confer, on average, 15% of all Ph.D. degrees awarded annually in the United States.

    CIC members engage in $8 billion in funded research, receiving some 12 percent of the total federal research funds awarded annually (18 percent of the National Science Foundation total, and 15.7 percent of the USDA total).

    Collectively, CIC members employ more than 38,000 full-time faculty members and enroll approximately 400,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

    CIC member libraries own more book volumes (more than 80 million volumes) than the 10 campuses of the University of California system (34 million) and the Ivy League (64 million).

    True 2-3 games vs 6 plus a possible bowl with Maryland. Most likely Maryland was taking a bigger portion of the bowl money than they were contributing. I think the ACC did ok.
