Sure adding the top teams from any major conference to another would make it a tougher conference. Maryland went to the B1G. Did it make them a tougher conference nope? Did it help Maryland on the football field where they are 4-44 against B1G teams? Nope. It is about the $ and the B1G has more to offer than either the SEC or the B12 and it is not even close.
In the last year the ACC added the biggest football draw in the country for 5 games a year and lost Maryland. I think they did ok.

Not for long. The SEC network will start in 2015 and that should bring in an additional 25-35Million a year per team on top of what they already get. The money gap is closing bc we have a better product right now. I would not be surprised, if the SEC expands correctly (Getting NC and VA markets) to see that number increase to 50+Million per school
