Dan Fouts. Now you name one from FSU.

Brad Johnson won a super bowl even though it was mainly the defense, and threw for close to 30000 yards. We also have Christian Ponder who has looked good this season outside of a couple of games.

How did Ponder get drafted in the first with a history of underachieving QBs from FSU?

Solid QB. No Super Bowl ring though.

So I am hating on Oregon because I said that your quarterback will not be a first round pick. Name me one Oregon quarterback that looked good in college and the NFL.

Who was the last great D lineman from Wisconsin before JJ Watt? Who was the last great QB from Baylor before RG3? Talent is talent, regardless of where they came from.

With that being said I don’t love MM as a pro prospect right now, and I doubt he goes #1 in 2014 even if CK is coaching the Jag’s. He has impressive physical tools and actually has a legit shot of playing in the NFL unlike DT and Masoli but that Oregon passing game is a lot of short passes and screens. I like his potential and hopefully CK will open up that passing game a little bit more in 13 but right now Teddy Bridgewater is probably the #1 QB in that class.

My advice to you on that is watch Mariota's last two games against USC and Cal (more likely the highlights), many examples of 20+ yard throws. Like I said above he's a different passer, capable of making all the throws. He had 681 yards and 10 TDs in those two games. There's been some but not nearly as much screen passing as past season's now that Mariota has got some games under him. Kelly trusts him to throw downfield.

  • Clowney will be the #1 pick next year
Best DE prospect in a long time and the Jags(or whoever has the pic) would be stupid not to take him

Solid? He's in the NFL HOF for a reason. Marino never won a ring, are you going to compare him to Johnson?

The Jacksonville Jaguars select Marcus Mariota, quarterback, Oregon

2014 1st pick will be Wr Marqise Lee!!!

    Kalani69

  • Not sure he'll be the first pick but anyone who says he has no chance at the first round hasn't watched him play. Hope he stays at Oregon a few more years.

PS: why isn't he in the Heisman race with better numbers than Kline?

I guess it depends if the team picking needs a game-breaking WR or a game-breaking DE.

A wise man once said, "You play to win the game."

I'll say this. Marino was a selfish player.

Well for he was the first FSU quarterback to be drafted in the first, so our quarterback have never had high expectations in the first place. Also he will not be the last one either under Fisher.

Only QB with high expectations was Joey and I'm not sure anyone could have succeeded in Detroit during those years.

  • Hell when ESPN did the all time bust list they just named Oregon quarterback instead of naming just one. It was on that top 10 special show they used to do that comes on NFL network now.

Please explain to me how what any of those QB's did has anything to do with what mariota will do?

  • Lots of people ITT obviously haven't seen him play and think he's darron Thomas.

Not even close. This kid would dominate in USC or LSU or Bama's offense.

6'4 with a strong and precision accurate arm, makes all of the right decisions, and just happens to run a legit 4.4

21 year old RS so 1st overall pick, and no chip Kelly won't be their coach.

    Dang it!

I thought I had you pegged on the Chip Kelly thing!

Kid's good. Sometimes though the "system guys" don't get the same love as others. Remember that it wasn't until the combine that Cam became the #1 pick.

Yeah and RG3 ran a similar system with lots of zone read. Thing is some qb's need that system (Johnny Football being one IMO) and some don't (Cam, RG3, VY)

QB position in the NFL is changing a little bit, especially with guys this toolsy coming out. Akili Smith and Joey Harrington weren't this toolsy coming out.

    Alonzo Harris

  • As a Jags fan that would fine with me

    1. Fire the front office (owner basically said it's happening and for the first time in a long time we have one that is pissed we are losing and will do whatever to make it stop)

    2. QBs in this class suck. Pick up Vick for one year and draft Jarvis Jones (another glaring need)

    3. Pick the QB in 14

After seeing him in person, Johnny Football doesn't need a system, but his size would be a problem at the next level, IMO. He is Doug Flutie. He will make a great backup and even possibly start at times, but that's about it, IMO.

Of course, he has 3 more years to develop as well.
