With the first pick in the 2014 NFL draft...

As a Jags fan that would fine with me

    1. Fire the front office (owner basically said it's happening and for the first time in a long time we have one that is pissed we are losing and will do whatever to make it stop)

    2. QBs in this class suck. Pick up Vick for one year and draft Jarvis Jones (another glaring need)

    3. Pick the QB in 14

You're getting a year of Tebow to try and save the franchise or move to LA.

You're way too good of a poster to believe that. Tebow maybe, LA no

After seeing him in person, Johnny Football doesn't need a system, but his size would be a problem at the next level, IMO. He is Doug Flutie. He will make a great backup and even possibly start at times, but that's about it, IMO.

Of course, he has 3 more years to develop as well.

He doesn't have the arm strength or size necessary for the league. If JF had either he'd be a prospect, but lacking both kills him.

Also, this isn't a nod that Oregon is dominant and would run over Bama like JF. aTm has two first round picks at OT, and UO has nothing close to that.

    Consider it a slight jab.

I would expect the NFL to expand first, but that could be on down the list of options.

    Didn't take it as one.

IF we made it back, I would like to see Oregon lose though.

This is a much better Oregon team this year than the previous years, IMO.

Brad Johnson won a super bowl even though it was mainly the defense, and threw for close to 30000 yards. We also have Christian Ponder who has looked good this season outside of a couple of games.

Ponder looked good at the start of the season and now has looked chit a bunch of weeks in a row. He sucks ass.

Duvalnole being a homer? Color me shocked.

to be fair they lack receivers outside of harvin and the OL forgot how to block in the last couple games

that being said ponder will probably never be elite but yesterday showed that if he can be just good then they can beat alot of teams. give him some actualy weapons at WR and some more defense and the vikings will start to compete for the playoffs. i imagine they will want to look like the 49ers. not a lot of flash but good defense, strong run game, and efficiency from the qb.

to be honest this might not be a bad idea. the Jags lack talent everywhere. i was at the game against detroit and it was absolutely laughable how bad they were. they need to decide where they want to get better and focus on that. id almost trade out of the #1 pick and keep trading back as much as i could in the first to get some more picks. they have holes everywhere on that roster.

QB - lol. so bad but they could look elsewhere
RB - MJD is a beast. no needs
FB - greg jones is good. no worry
OL - horrifyingly bad. need multiple upgrades
TE - lewis is ok. nothing special but not pressing at all
WR - hard to say. qb play is so bad its hard to jedge

DL - needs better players. alualu is ok, mincey is decent. rest are meh
LB - pozlusny is good rest are meh
    DB - turrible just turrible

    PK - good
    P - good

  • Jadeveon Clowney.......all day. Heck, Clowney would go #1 in the 2013 Draft if he were eligible. I'm old school (age 38).......Clowney is so dominant he reminds me of watching Herschel, Bo, and Marcus Dupree in the early/mid 1980s.

Comparable in dominance to Derrick Thomas' last season at Bama when he recorded 27 sacks. Thomas was pure speed, agility off the edge. Clowney is speed and power. I imagine Clowney will eventually top out at around 280-285 and be Julius Peppers 2.0x.....maybe slightly better as Peppers doesn't give 100% all the time.

Peppers used to date my classmate when I was in Grad School at UNC (2002-2004)....actually they dated 2 years previous to my meeting her when they were undergrads. Had the chance to see Peppers in person in 2003. Never before had I seen a 6'7", 290-300 pound dude that looked like he had 6-7% bodyfat as most lineman, OL & DL, had some fat. Not Peppers. Dude had ripped abs.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

Not saying Clowney won't be the best player available, but that franchise needs a new QB.

Mariota is far and away the best bet to keep them in Jax and give them success right away.

Been watching him since high school, the success he is having is no fluke.

  • If Clowney is the top overall pick, I believe it will be the first time a consensus No. 1 overall prospect goes on to become the No. 1 overall pick.

  • On Mariota I remember Justin Hopkins telling me the Oregon staff liked him better than Jarrard Randall coming out of high school. Randall was considered the better prospect for a while, but I think that was due mainly to lack of pub South Florida vs. Hawaii.

He threw for over 200 yards this sunday with 2 touchdowns, so how is that being a homer saying that he looked good when he had a good game Sunday.

Did Mariota just fly under the radar in HS? Seems like he should have been a legit top 10 QB in that class. Seeing as how he only started one season in high school there was probably not a lot to go off of, but he's everything you want in an elite QB it seems.

So I am hating on Oregon because I said that your quarterback will not be a first round pick. Name me one Oregon quarterback that looked good in college and the NFL.

No Oregon QB in the past has had the talent, skill, speed, accuracy, arm, pocket awareness, IQ, poise, maturity and size as Mariota. Kid's only a rsf too. He's only going to get better.

If he puts on 10-15lbs of muscle mass he will definitely be a first round pick. And he should have no problem at all putting on that weight. Look at Cal game. They had a goal of shutting down the run and putting the game on Mariotas arm and Marcus shreded them apart. Same thing against SC. Even though we ran all over the Trojans, Mariota also torched them with his arm as well.

Something like 20/23 306 yds, 94 rushing yds, 5-6 tds(forget). And against Cal he was something like 27/34 366 yds, 6tds. Kid is special. His skills go beyond just running Chips system. He's a flat out baller. I can't think of five QB's I'd rather have over him and he's just a freshmen.

That being said I don't think he'll be the #1 overall draft pick, but I definitely think he'll be a top 5-10 pick for sure.

i dont know. kids coming from that spread system arent coveted by the NFL. RIGHT NOW i dont see him as an NFL prospect. i havent seen enough to think hes got a skillset to play in the league. now if chip kelly bounces to the NFL and brings his system i will change my mind. but i havent seen anything that tells me he will play on sunday. he still has a couple years to prove me wrong

for the record i have the same feelings on johnny manziel

  • Yeah his ranking wasn't terrible. We had him behind Driskel, Miller, Frazier (bad), Walsh, Hundley, Bridgewater and Starling.

Idk. Alot of teams are switching to an uptempo, no huddle spread in the nfl. Who knows how it will be in 2-3 years. Thing with Mariota is he doesn't just throw bubble screens or short 5-10 yard passes. He has proven(especially in the past two games) he can air it out and throw perfect strikes 25+ yards downfield. Of course I have some homer in me, but I think he has all the skill, brains, tools, athleticism and talent to succeed on the next level. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

thats why i say he hasnt shown it yet. i havent watched an entire oregon game yet but it seems like a lot of quick stuff to thomas, handoffs to barner and screens. obviously im sure its more than that but i dont remember him going downfield alot. seemed liek all i see are 10 yards throws turned into 50 yard gains. ill pay attention to the stanford game this weekend

I want to see this, because I have seen the Tackle, tightend and fullback or runningback all chip a dominant end to try and stop him from making the play. Unless they sent a receiver to block him to, because normallythe guard doubles down on the Tackle to help the center depending on what defense is ran.
