    North Korea and Canada?

    Really?

I don't pretend to believe to know much about politics, BUT I know full well North Korea would bitch slap Canada and give most of the rest of the world a run for their money.

I also edited my previous post after you posted this on my thoughts.

Where the Canadians have them beat is in the air and sea. And technology in general. Also Canada has nukes as well. Granted they would probably need to use our bases for their planes but the Canadians would actually take NK. I know its sounds weird saying Canada would win a war, but they would that one.

I don't think another "world war" will ever happen again. With the ease of drone warfare and nuclear weapons, I don't see anyone willing to try it except small nations, who don't constitute the type of countries I'd associate with a "world war" anyway.

It'll happen. Many have happened before, we just only named two. Also in past world wars the "world" was relative.

They held their own pretty well in WWII, too. Obviously we and the Russians did the bulk of the work with the Brits in a close second, but Canada did alright.

C'mon, you really don't think we as human beings have evolved at all since we came upon this earth? That's a rather disheartening notion.

Over 100s of thousands of years, yeah.

The world is vastly different than it was in the past. It's just not a feasible undertaking IMO.

Yeah. Us and the Brits had to get them there, but when they arrived they fought hard.

I pride myself on being pretty well versed when it comes to WWII 'cause I just love the history and strategy behind the entire campaign, but it wasn't until I visited Normandy with an expert guide that I really grasped just how much the Canadians contributed. Unsung heroes IMO.

    You learn something new everyday.

I'm no history buff for sure but I didn't know that the Canadiens did much at all. Good to hear honestly. I like the Canadian people personally. I actually have a buddy moving to Winnipeg for the Air Force. That one surprised me. I didn't know that we had stations in Winnipeg.

I've been to Toronto, BC, and Quebec but I'm not so sure how he's going to like Winnipeg.

  • sf2k on something we discussed earlier, our fighter jets have a range of only about 600-700 nautical miles. Hence why our bases are so important.

Yeah, of the 5 beaches, the U.S. took Utah and Omaha (the latter of which was the worst of the invasion, due to the presence of high cliffs at the end of the beach, providing excellent firing positions for the Germans), the British took Gold and Sword, and the Canadians were responsible for Juno.

The future of the Air Force is something that interests me, too. As our jets can fly further and as weapons can be utilized from further, the days of the intercepting aircraft and dog fighting come closer and closer to being a thing of the past. I think the future of air combat revolves around fighter craft capable of low earth orbit, allowing them to engage in a much larger area. But who knows; that's Virgin territory at the moment. lol

  • I just wanted to add this, imo what the military should do is create a unit of just women

One that would be like an SF unit, and one that was women only

This way the women that wanted combat could get the chance, and would have to go though specific training to prepare them

Just a thought and would be a good start to the future of women soldiers on combat imo

If you are comfortable with your daughter also becoming a future soldier and going into combat situations than I guess nobody can really question your feelings on the matter.

If my daughter grew up and wanted to be in a combat role, I would be very much proud of her.

She is only 19 months old right now, but I teach her everyday never to let someone tell her she can't do something. If she can capable and willing, then she should have that right.

Those arguments are ridiculous and should be ignored. The argument that women can't be good soldiers because they menstruate or 'like to take showers' should stay in the 1970's where it belongs. Any soldier who can't do his job around a woman should go back to the farm.

Women can be great soldiers and a lot are. Being on the frontline 365 days in a row is a completely different animal. It adds a dynamic that can and will lead to a lot of problems. Guess this is something you wouldn't know unless you've experienced combat from the front.

Interesting blog from a Danish platoon leader. The Danish allow men and women to serve as equals and have since 1988.

That's bunk. Trust me the military hires interpreters for those situations. These interpreters rotate every few days if they are ladies.

I understand the military very well thank you very much. This is one of those things that just scares everyone at first because it is not the way we have done things for the last 100 years. Ten years from now, everyone will just take it for granted.

    Have you served?

Yup and at those ages, ugh.... ugly situations doesn't even begin to describe it

Yep, imagine Suzy Q is dating GI Joe in the same platoon they split up and GI Joe's best friend and squad leader gets horny and settles for Suzy Q 1 night. GI Joe is pissed and loaded with full combat load, not a pretty sight.

When I was in college I took Canadian as a second language. I'm not a big fan of Canadians but I will give them props from time to time when due.
Miss Canada definitely deserves a nod.

Good lord looks like that's painted on her. God bless Canada!
