Word on Hoke....

  • Maybe the sports world is finding out this guy was a great hire. I read this article this morning.

    http://coachesbythenumbers.com/why-brady-hoke-might-have-been-a-great-hire/

FYI, I'm a Florida State fan (DISCLAIMER). Just thought it was a good read. It's a solid website in general for you coaching guys.

  • This, the general positive energy from the program, initial signs that fundamentals have improved (namely, tackling), and stellar recruiting have made me extremely optimistic about Brady Hoke's future here.

He's a great guy, very nice, genuine, and energetic. I really like how our offense will gradually transition into a more modernized version of the old Michigan offense and that we're recruiting for both speed and size.

Hoke's task-- to get this team ready for Ohio State might be even harder than Schembechler's was in 1969. Hoke is doing it with reduced practice time (a penalty from the Rich Rodriguez sanctions). A win against Ohio State this year would mean his name would definitely start being mentioned in the same breath as Bo Schembechler. Hopefully, he's immediately successful.

Thankfully those practice time reductions I believe are almost fulfilled. Hoke and co. focusing on defensive fundamentals I hope will have a profound effect this season.

  • Lots of good info there. Some of it may mean something, some of it may not mean squat.

Wanna know the part of the article that blew my mind? This quote:

"Neither Carr or Rodriguez coached a game at Michigan with inferior talent"

While I can likely agree with that statement wrt Carr. To say RR didnt have inferior talent (especially in the 1st... and even 2nd years here) is laughable. His first year here- a walk-on & first time starter, was his starting QB. I have nothing against Nick Sheridan. But he was on the team, to learn how to become a football coach first and foremost. Next thing he knows- he's the starting QB.

Other then that quote- pretty good stuff tho.

Me too, 47-50 is impressive. No wonder Brandon went after Hoke before Harbaugh.

Not trying to flame or anything, I'm just generally curious as to why you have a "Shock the World" shirt in your sig. Isn't that what Juwon Howard was saying after Michigan beat Kentucky, hence the maize and blue?

Or is it because of Muhammad Ali?

    Or something all together different?

  • Hoke is 0-0 at Michigan.
Fickell is 0-0 at Ohio State

This is truly all that matters right now.

  • I had an Ohio state fan a few weeks back tell me that Fickell's winning percentage is better and Hoke's. He said Fickell's at .500 and Hoke is below .500. I chuckled and said ok math major but Fickell is at .000, and I had to break it down for him, 0 wins/0 total games=.000. roflmao

  • Hoke has years of head coaching experience at challenging jobs. He would have been the hottest coach on the market next off-season after beating Michigan in Ann Arbor and winning 10/11 games.

Some of them are pretty bad, yes.

    Also, Casey Anthony.

A heads up: Wisconsin and Penn State fans also have a reputation of being "less than welcoming" to visiting fans. I'd imagine that Iowa fans won't be hospitable either...

I think most Michigan fans are thinking this way, but if recruiting is any indication of how he gets it done on the field he will be a great coach.

What does recruiting have to do with how he's going to coach? tZooker is a phenomenal recruiter. A good coach? Not so much.
