If you think PSU put out a video to purposely offend veterans you are just wrong. They created a scenario to show how to deal with troublesome students and PSU took the video down once people voiced that they had a problem with it.

No, it's blatantly offensive. If you can't see that then you need help. It pigeon holed all veterans as being stupid and out of control.

Sorry, but where did it say that. It was how to deal with a specific situation should it arise. I'm sure there are millions of other training videos such as: How to deal with an athlete who comes at a professor, how to deal with a man who gets forceful with his female professor, etc. It's a terribly stupid video, but it's not discriminatory. It's not saying veterans regularly do this, it's saying what happens if someone does something and how should you react. It's bleeping dumb as hell, but this reaction is way over the top.

Go to the WVU training videos and the A&M training videos and watch them, I'm sure there's nothing at all dumb as hell that might offend people who take it the wrong way...

You are speaking ignorantly. I see this all the time. Veterans are treated poorly at a lot of places because people just think they are crazy. People think every veteran has a severe case of PTSD. People think veterans will snap at any given time and "threaten" someone.

This is nothing new. PSU isn't the only place to do this, so don't feel too bad. It gets really old seeing this. That is one of the reasons I'm excited to get out of eastern NC and back to Parkersburg, WV.

There is nothing more obnoxious than a bunch of self-righteous vets. Stop acting like your shit doesn't stink. Being in the military does not make you immune to any kind of negative social or psychological issue that other people have to figure out how to address.

It is a training video based on a very real phenomenon--vets, especially those who have seen combat, can have a very difficult time in academia (or any institution that isn't the military) and absolutely can become aggressive and threatening. This is clearly a scenario video meant to illustrate that kind of behavior, which I'm sure was followed up with a training session on how to cope with that type of student behavior.

What is your point exactly? That the video depicted a real phenomenon? I've seen it. I've talked to faculty that have had to deal with it. In this thread you and your buddy have done little more than project your own insecurity and ignorance. I can't stand vets who think any criticism of any veteran doing anything is somehow offensive. It's not--it's reality.

I'm an Army two tour Iraq veteran and am not offended by this crappy video.

If you find a post saying "vets can struggle in higher education and have other issues due to their service" offensive, then I'm not surprised you find this video offensive. It's a fact.

Everyone hopes that 100% of veterans come back and have incredible success. Unfortunately, that's not the case and serving the country affects every individual differently. Many thrive when they return and some struggle. This is a bad video about how to react as a professor should someone who struggles from something such as PTSD act out in class. It's not some crazy message about how veteran's are all crazy and will threaten you at the drop of a hat.
