  • How in the hell do you go through 6 game systems?

  • Well the Xbox got the RRoD(VERy common as I am sure you know) and the PS3 I got the YLoD like 4 different times which is extremely unfortunate. I didn't have it hemmed up in a box for it to overheat either.

I had the opposite happen to me. I went through 5 XBOX's.

If I were you I would hate Microsoft then. It's just about individual experiences really.

  • I have only had two Xbox's and I broke the first one so technically it wasn't a malfunction.

I've had two PS3s die in two years. One fat, one slim.

I wish Sony would sell the PS3 franchise to Samsung, who haven't forgotten how to build products that work the way Sony has.

No, because then the best exclusives in gaming would cease to exist.

I think Samsung should make their own console.

The only way I can see this happening is if they go to a download-only model and there's no such thing as physical games you can buy and sell.

Not that I'd be especially upset if I couldn't buy a used game from gamespot for thirty cents less then a new one, or trade in my used games to them for a ball of pocket lint.

    Man. You get screwed.

    BamaLivesFootba

  • Yeah you do get screwed. I could trade in an entire slew of games and then they would say it was worth 10 bucks, BUT that would just be store credit and I could only get like 3 cold cash.

LOL. No, I sent my PS3 to sony 4 different times(I know for a fact 3, but i believe it was 4) I have had 2 different Xbox systems and had it break down with the RRoD once, Microsoft realized it was their error and repaired it for free, while Sony made me pay 2 times for the same thing(Which was their error) and the last time to save my data I tried to do it myself and missed a crucial step so I lost my PS3.

Note: i am not arguing performance, cause I loved my PS3 and its games and bluray and the whole 9 yards. But if it is gonna have constant errors I am gonna go with the company who doesn't give me the shaft. And I wanna play the new Halo lol.

that really made you "laugh out loud" The 360 has had the highest failure rate of all 3 systems every year they have been out.

Just because you have had more die of ps3 doesnt change that fact.

I have three Samsung HDTV's: two 48" and one 40". If they were to come out with a gaming system I would be extremely interested in purchasing one.

It does for me. I have had both and one has done flat out better than the other, and in this business like most others its all about personal satisfaction and preference.

Another note to point out is that while it may have had more failures at least the fixed mine for free, Sony was charging 90$.

Microsoft didnt always fix it for free, they did when it got threatened with a class action lawsuit with the data to back it up a couple years in the consoles lifespan.
Ps3 does not fail enough to warrant the same

The launch ps2 did have a similar failure rate and they also fixed it for free.

Microsoft is not fixing it because they want to, they have to because it was a hardware problem until the new 360s came out a year or two ago

    Coastal Eer

  • Ive had the same 360 for 6 years and have never had a problem with it. No red-ring-of-death. No games freezing...nothing. I have friends who have had these problems with both the XBOX and PS3. But have personally had a great experience with Microsoft and cant imagine I'll make a switch next time around. Plus, the XBOX controller is so much better than that tiny fisher price thing Sony gives you.

Yep. I had to pay to have my Xbox fixed twice before M$ started covering the RROD.

I don't care if they want to or not, they did it for free and sony did not. Once I pay for that once I am hesitant to do it again, I did it again anyways and it happened a 3rd time so I complained and got it fixed free....and it happened again.

That doesn't change my point that it was not free for everyone. They started doing it for free a couple years in for the reasons I stated. and my point of why the ps3 is not fixed for free

It also doesn't change the fact that Ps3s are more reliable than 360s

I am not asking for your opinion or personal experience, I am saying by and large the ps3 is more reliable- which it is

really what are you arguing with me about? I know your story, I have read about it in the last 3 posts

I sell my games to Amazon now. The hassle-to-reward ratio is perfect for me, it gives you the price you'll get for the games, I print out a UPS label, drop it off in the mail room at work, wait for email saying my amazon credit is ready.

I didn't know i could do that. I appreciate it, now i will do the same

  • Only way i'll buy the PS4 is if they start making people pay for online so they can keep it up to date. Xbox 360 has updated their dash board many times while the PS3 is pretty much the same from day one. Xbox 360 is just easier to use, and up to date, my PS3 from the first year it was out has always worked and the slim xbox 360 has had no problems, maybe i'v just been lucky.

  • Hate to tell all you Sony guys but I was at a GameStop recently and one of the corporate guys was in there talking about it and was acting like Sony is in really bad shape right now and it will be a while for them to do anything with it, he was even acting like Microsoft could really 'put the dagger in the heart' of Sony hell If I know though I just play the damn things

I think what we've learned ITT is that the current generation of video game systems all suck from a reliability standpoint. Sadly I doubt it's anything to do with Sony or Microsoft specifically, and more to do with the fact that we live in a world now where products aren't meant to last. It's fine that a cell phone only lasts the two years until you get a new one, but if these things are going to have 7-8 year product lifecycles they need to be built to last that long.

Yeah that is pretty much the bottom line here.

    Most Gamestop employees are idiots...

PS4 will be out soon. Probably Holiday of next year.

If something did happen to Sony, I would just go the PC route.

Yeah. Instead of buying a $300 video game system that is supposed to last a long time but doesn't, you can just spend $300 on a PC video card they'll honestly admit to you up front will be totally obsolete in 18 months.

Wouldnt be obsolete. You can keep the same video card for as long as you like. You will just need to play games with the same graphics as a console. These consoles are running 6 year old video cards, but can still crank out great looking games. Just not PC caliber games.

  • I have aspirations to have two HDTVs in my man cave. One will have the Xbox hooked up to it, the other will have the PlayStation. Both will be connected to my HTPC via a switcher which will allow me to play either both consoles or one console and use the HTPC on the other TV to watch movies, sports, etc. or play PC games.

Go big or go home, right?
