It may eventually be the biggest "cheat" related story in the history of CFB.

Naw, SMU had written contracts drawn up for paying players and the freakin Governor was in on it.
    However...2nd biggest, maybe.
I wish Yahoo would GTF out of the state of Florida, now UCF is in trouble.

That's exactly what I mean. A writer for a Georgia website says "word is" about who was in Auburn? Yeah, I'd like to know where the "word" came from.

So one of the most recognizable, biggest names in sports journalism was seen in Auburn but the only person that seems to know about this is the writer of a Georgia website? Or did he read it on Tigerdroppings?

I swear people have NO boundaries anymore. This guys isn't a random fan posting on a site. He is the writer and editor of the site, you would HOPE that he had some kind of standard for what he does and doesn't "report".

    "Word is" is pitiful.

I've lived here my whole life except for college. I don't hope I'm correct, but I am. Herschel was probably the last of the wild and crazy days. They don't do anything illegal that would excite you or the NCAA anymore.

If you look, most of the highly successful OOS kids they get were probably theirs from the kid's freshman year of high school. Stafford knew he was going where Richt was from like 11 years old, AJ Green was all dawg from day 1 and even skipped school the day Spurrier tried to visit, Knowshon rode a freaking train down to UGA because he wanted to visit so much, and so on.

Charles was going where Murray went, he just chose to hold out until the end.

Listen, that honestly was an off-hand remark on our board meant only for subscribers to our site based on some chatter that has been going around media circles for a little while now.

Let me be clear that I have no solid knowledge of a Miami-type story being due out on Auburn or any other school, nor did I mean to report that as a solid fact on the national board.

    -G

So you meant to IMPLY that a "Miami-type" story was being worked on about Auburn but you don't actually have any facts to back it up?

    Does that sum it up?

I understand it wasn't an actual feature article or anything, but was actually just a small comment in someone else's thread.

However, if it's information that's floating around media circles, there is a reason it hasn't come out. People in the "media" can't (or shouldn't) really make "off-hand" comments like that in a public forum (even if it's for members, its a forum, and is therefore pretty public). It should only be mentioned by media people once they have confirmed information or facts (which is probably why it hasn't actually been reported by anyone yet).

Requiring actual verified facts is the ONLY thing that separates real journalists from message board posters. As soon as our "media" members lower their standards to that of message board posters....well, that's just not good.

By the way, this isn't all directed just at your or at your comment....I understand that you probably didn't say it intending to spread a rumor or to suggest anything Miami-related in nature. But at the same time, I'd be very, very interested in knowing where the "chatter" comes from. Because if someone actually saw him in Auburn, then it's a story. If someone could actually verify he was there, it would be news worthy and wouldn't be "chatter" in media circles.

Anyway, I would just be really interested to see where the chatter comes from and who the people are in theses "circles" that have been talking about it. Alabama beat writers? Message board posters? Just curious because there was also "chatter" in "media circles" that Mike Dyer was in some kind of big trouble and would never play a down at Auburn again. Turns out he had a mild concussion, was at the scrimmages, at fan day signing autographs, and was back at practice yesterday going full speed. "Chatter" these days is often pretty entertaining. Especially if you're an Auburn fan. Chatter about the Yahoo 10 story. Fail. Chatter about FBI tapes all about Auburn football. Fail. Chatter about the name of the bag man. Fail. Chatter about Mike Dyer's career being over. Fail.

I'm just ready for a return to some kind of integrity based standard to return to "journalism" so we can better decipher actual facts from "chatter". Because "chatter" is for entertainment, not news reporting.

PS. Good luck to the Dawgs this year by the way....if the running game comes to life and you can get by Boise and Carolina, the schedule sets up very well for a return to glory. I like Richt and would like to see him turn it around.

"Word is" means I know it to be a rumor. And the fact that it is a rumor means I should not have posted anything about it -- period -- even if it was only intended for our subscribers and not a national forum. Owning up to a knee-jerk error and promising to leave the Auburn news to the guys at Auburn Undercover (who do a great job) from this point forward.

    RAGE!!!!

"rage" is over the top. I use caps for emphasis, not to represent shouting or rage. I can't remember the last time I felt "rage" about anything. I think to feel rage these days, it would take a lot more than something football related. Probably would have to be related to my children. Football <<<<<<<<< my children.

And just a suggestion.....I wouldn't so dogmatically declare your innocence. I don't have the first clue if Georgia ever does anything dirty. But neither do you. I believe Richt 100% desires a clean program. I believe doing things the right way is important to him. But the simple fact is that Georgia has tons of rich boosters just like every other SEC program. I'm not sure how you can claim to know what they are up to 24 hours a day. The fact is you just simply never know.

Boise State, West Virginia, USC, Ohio State, Oregon, LSU, Miami, Georgia Tech, North Carolina.

The truth is, no program in the country should be sitting around arrogantly proclaiming their purity. If you do, you're just exposing yourself to a huge disappointment. Again, I don't believe the Georgia "program" or those in the athletic department are dirty or knowingly breaking rules. But that often isn't the problem. The problem often lies out there behind the scenes.

It was as he said, an off topic side note remark that we as paying customers occassionly like to and pay to see. Unlike other people and sites that remark didn't baloon into a 20 page topic, but rather left alone after it was posted. It was taken as it was meant to be taken, just a fun side note. Gentry has a record of only reprting facts and has won over many fans by being a stickler to this policy.

Don't even go there. I do like to be informed about what rumors are out there. And the topic was presented in a manner to show that it was only a rumor. I am going to quit now because you are being very defensive and emotional, but bottom line is it was clarified. Most everyone took it as what is was, a rumor.

I 100% completely grasp that it was a "side note" remark. But just because it was to "paying customers" doesn't make it a good idea, as he himself just noted. The fact that we are talking about this on the Blue Board, in a public forum, is exactly why it's not a good idea. Even if the intention was clear to the original readers, it left its context as soon as it left that board.

When you are a media member or "journalist", you just can't really afford to chime in with the message board folks too often....at least not when it comes to something rumor related. This isn't just about Auburn, this is about things in general and the way things are "reported" these days. I spend a lot of time on Auburn Undercover trying to get our fans not to engage in it when it comes to Alabama or LSU or anyone else.

I guess that's how life is now. You have to have warnings and disclaimers with everything you say because you can't count on common sense prevailing...

WARNING!!!! THIS IS NOT A CONFIRMED FACT BUT RATHER TALK THAT HAS BEEN CIRCULATING!!!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS TO HEART AS FACT!!!! DO NOT GAMBLE EVERYTHING YOU OWN IN VEGAS ON THE VALIDITY OF THIS RUMOR!!!!

[In Small Letters] Side effects of this post is that it may be taken the wrong way. This reponse was intended to inform people of what rumors are circulating around and in no way is the author accountable for the lack of common sense shown in interpreting this post.
