    2011.08.16 - 夏甲子園 - 習志野応援団 - 校歌, Yea, Alabama

Ok, this is the full version that I was able to find. The video starts with Narashino's school song. Hey Alabama, how about inviting your sister city's HS band to play at a game? Since this video has been linked by Alabama's page, I'll elaborate the setting for this. I attended Natsu Koushien, which is the National HS baseball tournament held every August. This year Narashino (one of my favorite schools) qualified out of Chiba Prefecture for the tournament. Their oen-dan (cheering section) is well known, particularly because of their band who has won numerous national awards. Anyways, I figure since Tuscaloosa is Narashino's sister city, the band picked up "Yea, Alabama" as part of its music to use during games.

  • I'm going to go all "band nerd" on y'all, but as a MDB alum, plenty of Alabama high school bands have played both Alabama's and Auburn's fight songs... no one played it as good as they did. Damn the Japanese... they are Japanese, right?

  • So when is Alabama gonna play Japanese fight songs at Bryant Denny?

Yes, they are Japanese. There are katakana characters on the front of the press box.

One high school band in Alabama (I honestly forget which) played fight songs from many teams as "stand tunes", including Alabama, Auburn, USC, ND, Ohio State, etc. Fight songs are easy musical pieces to get a hold of. Just an interesting coincidence IMO.

  • To show you what I mean, when I lived in Anniston, AL, our school played Across the Field (Ohio State) as our fight song. When I went to high school in Birmingham, we played the USC chant and fight song. It's a popular practice among high schools.

The city in Japan that is home to that team is a sister city of Tuscaloosa. The 2 cities have high school exchange programs as well and I am sure they picked it up that way.

Go Auburn! Funny Video - War Eagle From S...

It's true: Chris Lowe is an Auburn alumnus, he is an English teacher in South Korea, and he taught hundreds of his students some of his favorite Auburn chants and cheers to celebrate the Tigers playing in the BCS Championship. However, this video is a fictional comic take based on Chris' love for all things Auburn. No, he did not actually name any of his students Bo, Jackson, Cam or Newton. He has not been teaching his students about Auburn football all semester long. Oh, but one more thing is true; Chris and all his students wish Auburn good luck against Oregon in the national title game. Note: This video is the sole property of Lauren Bercarich.
