Your Teams Best 5 Year Stretch

  • When was it, what was it, will it be matched? Alabama: I'll say either 2008-2012 or 1977-1981. 61-7, 5 Top 10 Finishes, 2 SEC Championships, 3 National Championships, and a Heisman Trophy winner; 53-6-1, 5 Top 10 Finishes, 4 SEC Championships, 2 National Championships. Lord I hope so.

  • Best I can remember is Nebraska 93-97 going 60-3 and 3 NC and Miami 87-91 when they went 56-4 and 3 NC

miami 84-92 was very impressive. not sure of the record, but they dominated football...those teams were loaded with future head coaches as well.

    USC 2002-2006
    (59-6)
Back to Back AP MNC's and a half yard away from a 3rd
    34 game winning streak
5 straight AP top 4 finishes
    5 straight Pac-10 titles
    4-1 in BCS bowls
After SC's 2nd loss in that 2002 season, they went 51-2 in the following 53 games.

Edit: If we are going way back, then 1928-32 was also a great 5 year stretch for USC.
    (47-5-1)
    3 Mythical National Titles
    3 Rose Bowl wins

  • Just remember this with Miami... Played for it in 86 and was the WORST game ever played by a team in the history of college football. Vinny turns it over 75 times and Alonzo Highsmith is just JAMMING it down Penn State's mouth on the last drive. Look at the yardage total in that game and you would say, how in the hell did Miami lose??? 87 Miami wins it. 88 we get screwed in the WORST OFFICIATING CALL in the history of SPORTS. (yes, over Jeffery Meier.) What the refs were thinking with Cleveland Gary is BEYOND ANYBODY'S imagination. We would have played west virginia with Minor Harris and rolled. 89 win it again. 90 slipped up and won it again in 91.

Miami had a legitimate chance to win 5 in 6 years. They blew it themselves in 86 and was robbed in 88. That would have also been 4 in a row. Throw 83 in there and you're talking 6 in 9 years. blank Stupifying.

btw, 2002 Ohio State game is NOT on Terry Porter. Miami blew that one, too. That's on Sean Taylor (for the love of God, take a knee) and Randy Shannon (you're telling me you got krentzel at QB on 4th and forever, rush 4 and play 5 under 2 deep with your corners 20 yards off the ball???) Wow.

  • The amazing thing about Miami is this.... No home stadium, no student crowd (school is tiny), terrible facilities back then, and 4 different coaches win titles in a stretch of 19 years.

That tells you right there how much talent there is in Dade and Broward county. Don't believe me??? Check every SEC roster.... biggrin

Don't worry, Al's putting up a fence like Howard did and soon any player from Orlando down is a Cane. Guys like Sammy Watkins and Patrick Petersen will no longer venture elsewhere. Guys like Duke Johnson and Tracy Howard stay home.

  • I can honestly say too that Miami was VERY lucky in that stretch with the wide rights and left against FSU. Bobby Bowden even said one time, "and on my tombstone it will read...but he played Miami." How many titles does FSU have if they make all those kicks???

  • For the Gators im guessing 93-97

4 SEC Championships in a row(93,94,95,96) and an NC plus a heisman
