Your school's biggest bust and surprise in the NFL

You wouldn't know because you are a small child still going through puberty. You think Charles Woodson is an old timer from long ago. The internet is older than you. I doubt you even know what a Polaroid picture is.

    Are you serious right now?

Bust- Braylon Edwards, he had a nice season but he has not lived up to expectations and is inconsistent.

    Surprise- Tom Brady

Simply, how in the F**K did you leave Brady off of that list? He was average in college and somehow become one of the best QBs of all time.

Brady comment was the first thing I thought

My point is you have no idea who half the nominees in this thread are even if they're a whopping 25 years old. You are a smug little brat that runs his mouth about some of the dumbest crap.

You talk like you're an expert but people have cats older than you. I doubt you could even identify a pay phone, such ancient technology.

  • For Miami

    Bust: William Joseph, Randal Hill,
    Surprise: Jimmy Graham, sam Shields,

  • Surprise--Casey Wiegmann. Undrafted in 1996, Weigmann turned into one of the most consistent offensive linemen in NFL history. He was a 2008 Pro Bowl selection and started the last 175 games of his career. He retired following the 2011 season with an active streak of 11,162 consecutive snaps.

Bust (tie)--Randy Duncan. The quarterback was the Heisman runner-up and Walter Camp winner in 1958. He was the #1 pick in the 1959 draft by the Packers, whose young QB, Bart Starr, had struggled to that point. Duncan decided to take better money to play in the Canadian Football League. He played 2 years in the CFL and one year for the Dallas Texans (early KC Chiefs) before focusing on law school. All I can really say is that it was a different era.

Robert Gallery. Gallery was a consensus All-American and the Outland winner in 2003 before being the #2 pick in the '04 draft. Like so many Raiders in the past decade, he never really developed in the NFL. He was one of the elite LT prospects of all time and ended up playing guard for Oakland before moving to Seattle last year. He has never been to a pro bowl and signed with New England this offseason.

I thought someone did USC already, guess not. I'll give it a crack.

Biggest bust: Matt Leinart. There are plenty of others to disappoint. Mike Williams would have been my pick if he never made it back to the league. The Helix High graduate is doing some good things as the lead back finally.

Biggest surprise: Ryan Kalil. Tough to pick a surprise since a lot of the successful NFLers (coming from USC) are either 1st or 2nd round picks. Kalil is at the top of the list of Centers in the NFL. Three time Pro-Bowler in five seasons on a lousy team as a late 2nd round pick.

I'm not voting for Leinart until he's out of the league without starting somewhere again. I'd say based on expectations Reggie has been as big a bust.

I know Ryan a little and his success doesn't surprise me. He acts laid back but is a pro in every respect. Matt Cassell would be my vote for biggest surprise out of USC. Two snaps in four years and he's a starter in the NFL.

What about Clay Matthews as a surprise? Wasn't he a walk-on at USC who didn't start until his senior year?

He was still a 1st rd pick, i hardly called that a surprise.

Anybody who saw Clay play at USC was not surprised by his success in the NFL

He was a surprise at USC but not the NFL

That kid was amazing to watch at USC, one of the most fun LB's to watch play I have ever seen

Well the biggest bust has to be Akili Smith. Third pick in the draft and managed to start a whole 16 games in his NFL career.

On the flipside I would put A. J. Feeley as the biggest surprise. He was a backup for almost his entire career at Oregon (Behind Joey Harrington and the above mentioned Akili Smith) but has been in the NFL for over a decade, and started some games for St Louis last year. (Beat the Saints, actually)

I'd have to agree. I'd add in Gould if kickers count (edit-as a surprise).

  • Surprise: Jimmy Graham, Frank Gore (this may be a head scratcher for some, but the kid couldn't stay healthy at Miami. So I'm surprised he has stayed in the league this long and been this good for this amount of time.)

    Bust: Brandon Meriweather

Only one out of those in the 2012 draft I see possibly making an impact is Jerel. Cousins is a backup and Cunningham will not last.

Cousins - If placed in the correct system, he could thrive. Guy is smart and is prehaps MSU's most accurate passer ever. NFL QB's need to have their sh!t together, and Cousins has that covered in spades. Another thing, MSU's last two QB's are still in the NFL. How many other schools can say that?

Cunningham - he made a terrific jump in production his senior year. Not sure if he's hit his ceiling yet - he could continue to improve. One thing, not sure if he has NFL speed.

Anyway, to answer the original question...

Bust - Tony Mandrich. Guy was a high 1st rounder, and tanked. Unlike Rogers, I'm not aware of any injuries

Surprise - Plax. I knew he was good - but he's even better than I thought. Plax is an elite talent.

True but JR was a real lazy, really dumb person.

He had all of the tools but 0 work ethic and a bad attitude.

Maybe a Belicheck could get through to him but not the Raiders.

I agree. Nobody is as bad as they look on the Raiders, but that isn't saying much. IMO, Russell is probably the worst QB ever drafted at #1 overall. He was destined for bust from day one, just like Ryan Leaf.

I think he did have all the PHYSICAL tools, but mentally he is one of the worst QBs I have ever seen. Even in the dominant win over ND in the Sugar that he put up good numbers in, his reads/progressions were just shit.

Someone will act incredulous about that statement so...: It is good for the Tigers they so completely outclassed ND in every single facet of that game because if their secondary had been able to cover ANY of LSU's receivers for even a few seconds OR the DL could have gotten into the same zip code as Russell at any point in the game, it might be very different story. I remember being shocked after that game that Russell had 300+ yards because I honestly thought LSU had won that game in spite of Russell and because of the lines and that ND might has well have been Jesuit HS. Russell was a bust no matter where he went.

  • All of my fellow Spartans have said Charles Rogers as biggest bust and while I agree he was a huge bust, I am going to say MSU's biggest bust was Tony Mandarich.
