Your teams biggest strength/weakness in 2012

  • For the Gamecocks:

    Weaknesses:

    1. Kicking game. We have perhaps the worst kicking game in major div I football after years of quality. I shuddered everytime we went to punt last year thinking it would be blocked, only to be relieved most times by a 20 yard shank oob

    2. WR. Losing Alson is rough, as it leaves a huge void. We had a real good class coming in at WR but you never know on trues till they get on field. There are several kids who may step up, but need someone to thats for sure

    Strengths:

    1. RB: Marcus Lattimore will be back, and even if a tad behind 100% he wont be far. Shon Carson was a clear #2 back going into fall but got injured and yet Miles/Wilds each ran well in their absence. Add Mike Davis and Salley as wild cards and we are good and deep

    2. DL: Even losing Travian Robertson in the middle and MI6 at DE, SC will have a top 5 defensive line and be amongst the nations leaders in sacks. Brad Lawing is the best D line coach in the country and has done fantastic work with the unit

    Michigan State

    Strengths:

Defense, particularly the front 7: 6/7 starters returning on the front 7 (9/11 from the starting D) off of a defense that finished 6th nationally in total D, and in the top 20 in every major D category in 2011.

Offensive line/running game: 4/5 starters return off the OL and the top RB (Bell, 900 yards, 5.2 YPC, 13 TDs despite splitting carries) as well.

    Weaknesses:

This is more of a giant question mark: QB/WR/Passing game. Of the top 5 receiving targets from last year, only 1 returns and that's the RB Bell. QB Maxwell is a RS JR groomed for the position, but has not seen the spotlight yet. All of the receiving options are either FR, Transfers (DeAnthony Arnett from TN) or have injury concerns.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    Strengths:
    1) Crazy deep Dline
    2) RB Depth
    3) Braxton

    Weaknesses:
    1) New system, how will the team adapt?
    2) WR play, crazy young last year, maybe a year of seasoning will drastically improve the WR corps.

  • Strengths:

O-Line gets better than last year with Cyrus at LT and Barret Jones playing C (yes i said better)
AJ has a year under his belt, and a NC
    RB (all of them)
    Run Defense..this is Alabama

Weakness - more like question marks

    Inexperience at NT
    edge pass rushers imo

  • UGA: Srength: Defense - we return 9 of last years starters and several more major contributors. We have also added much needed depth as well. Also its one more year in Grantham's scheme.

Weakness: Offense - at times a defense can asolutely shut down one aspect of our game running/passing and we break down and can't finish drives. We do however have a more solid, and deeper unit this year. Our O-line once again will be the question going into spring.

    Tennessee:

    Strengths
1: WR Justin Hunter and D. Rogers are probably one of the best duos in the nation. If Patterson is as good as advertised, Tennessee could have one of the most potent passing attacks it's had since the Manning era.
    2. Line Backers ... Even tho Tennessee is probably going to switch to a 3-4 defense, Maggitt, Lathers, Johnson, and possibly Smith(de moved to lb) are all greatly talented... Not Alabama good, but it's getting there....

    Weaknesses
    1. Running back..... I shouldn't even have to type out why. It was awful last year. There's hope with an offensive line all returning. New assistant position coaches Jay Graham and Sam Pittman were brought in to change the direction the running game has went in.
    2. Leadership.... Kiffin's 2009 class is nonexistent now. There's really not a lot of talented seniors to lead this team through the roller coaster ride of playing in the SEC. Dooley's teams have played tough through 2 quarters, but haven't rose to the occasion in the third and fourth quarters. They have gotten blown out. Bray and Rogers.... have to grow up quick...

    Action Figure

  • Strength's

    1. 3rd year starting QB
    2. Rushing attack, Robinson and Toussaint both went over a 1,000 yds last year
    3. Starting Oline, 4 guys return with starting experience and/or major playing time
    4. Back 7 of the defense all return.

    Weakness

    1. Passing attack, lose the #1 WR and TE
    2. Oline depth, true freshman will be in the 2 deep
    3. DT, replace both starters from last year. Can a 5 star and a couple 4 stars finally live up to their potential?

Loss of Cooper (DB coach) could potentially be a weakness. LSU has a lot of pull to replace him, but I am a cooper fan, so there could be some impact there.

A weakness is someone that led the team to an 11-2 season?

You're probably right, what am I thinking.

I think Denard is a strength, but I couldn't miss out an opportunity to point out the Grossman-led NFC Champ Chicago Bears a few years ago.

  • OSU fans are claiming QB as a strength? He was the worst QB UF faced all year long. We sacked him six times and held him in check all game. Pretty sure he had less than 100 total yards agianst us. If you're saying he's a strength because of his HS rankings, then I'll say QB is a strength for UF, considering we signed two top five guys the year before last.. Point is, it's not. Maybe he showed flashes and everyone knows that a second year will help anyone, but it's way premature to call him a strength.

UT and LB? Again, worst LB unit UF faced in the SEC all year long. Maggit could be nice, but Johnson is SLOW as he can be. Who else has done anything? Getting to be "Bama" good? Who on the roster, or that you've recruited, would lead you to believe you're even UF, UGA, USCe, LSU good, let alone Bama LB good? Bad returning starters does not make them ten times better just because they're back. If a guy is ultra talented, you can usually tell within a year, two tops. Just because an injured "projected" starter is coming back, doesn't mean he was any good before. UT's entire starting OL returned in tact last year after a full year of experience. I think they actually got softer and worse than they were as freshmen. Who did you bring in that's going to change that? By a players third year starting, you've got a pretty good idea of whether they're going to be really good, good, average, or just plain bad. Right now, if those LB's or OL become just average, it'll be an upgrade.

    Strengths for UF

Front seven. Powell, Floyd, Easley, Hunter, McCray, Bostic, Jenkins, Orr, are all back, as are all their backups. Even after this year, only two are gone. Should be a huge strength this year. At DB, we started three true freshmen last year at some point. The oldest starter at DB was a sophmore last year. Those guys were really good by years end. They should also be a huge strength this year.

TE - Starters are back and we added the nations top two TE's in this years class, although only one will make an impact imo, and that's as a blocker

ST's. Our FG kicker was a finalist for the FG award (Ray Guy or Growza?) He led the nation in FG's last year. Made a 57 yarder but can actually kick it further than that.

Returner - Debose has run five kickoffs back for TD's the last two years. Only a junior this year.

? marks - OL - Everyone of them were new starters last year. They sucked.. I'm hoping it was youth, coaching, and switching schemes. The top ten OL's return this year and only one graduates after this year. Want to call them a strength, but unlike the UT fan, I don't equate returning starters with being a strength if they were bad in the first place. We'll see how it goes.

Weakness - QB - Great potential, one will be good in time, but still young. Not sure how it plays out but there will be growing up to do. Luckily, if the offense is just average for the first time in two years, UF can and maybe should win the east.

WR - I like Debose and Dunbar, but there is zero depth. One gets hurt and we're in trouble.

RB - See WR. Gilly is a nice RB and Joyer was a ridiculous FB as a true freshmen. That said, each have one backup that's not a true freshmen. Time for Mack Brown to live up to his high ranking. One injury to Gilly or Mack Brown and we're in trouble.

Chips are stacked against us for having a good offense. Just not enough depth anywhere. If our new OC and OL coach can improve them to just average, UF will be pretty damn good. Our offense ran the fewest amount of plays in the ENTIRE NCAA last year. John Brantley was literally playing for the other team in half our games last year. Our turnover margin was SO BAD. Weis, Brantley, Verducci were all disasters. The fact that we were so young on defense, with little depth, and still finished top ten nationally is ridiculous. Those guys are going to be insane this year imo.. Offense, not so much..

  • Strengths: front seven, OL, TE's, RB's Woods and Riddick moves back to RB, Atkinson as kick returner. Weaknesses: inexperienced CB's, huge questions at WR, young guys Neal, Daniels, and possibly Chris Brown must make immediate impacts. Chris Brown is a TF who missed over half his SR season but came back to put up huge #'s kid is 6-3 180 runs a 4.35 and might be the best long jumper in college next year. Most glaring question is who's the QB. Most think Golson wins out, if it's Reese we're in for another long year. PR team has no where to go but up. Neal, Brown, or AtkinsonIII should improve that. LB's have to get better in coverage. I expect the young kids to make major push for PT. We brought in a lot of talent in the LB class last year, most RS or played sparingly.
