Totally disagree. SEALs are the worst at keeping their mouths shut about anything. It's on them. The government shouldn't have helped though

The pathetic part to me is how america celebrates the killing like we accomplished something

    War still rages on

    No end in sight

Took a solid 20 years to capture him and finally kill him

Overall its just a total embarrassment to me, but the american public is retarded and it makes them feel good so it is what it is

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume your ex-military. This is almost the universal response I've heard from the same.

For a movie where I already knew every plot detail in advance I thought it was pretty good. Way better than Argo IMO

Military members rarely like movies that attempt to portray military situations (regardless of era). It's because things have to be either amped up or dumbed down so that the scenes are relatable and understandable to the general audience. This is true with anything Hollywood portrays (police work, life in the hospital, etc.). Military people are just way more vocal about it from my experience.

    Why is that?

I mean yeah WTF do I know... but some of the most cynical mfers I know are ex-military. Especially about the war/the gov etc. Nova's response was almost verbatim of what I've heard a few times. It just rang familiar to me. Christ, there's an ex-SEAL about 20 feet from me as I type this... I work with two of them.

I am military and enjoyed it. Only about 30-45 mins of the movie deals with the seals and military. The overwhelming majority of the movie is political in nature.

There are obvious exceptions to what I said, but the majority of the time the rule holds true. My dad's a doctor and he critiques every doctor TV show that's ever aired. lol

Oh of course without a doubt. There are a few military movies I can't stand. My fave of course is Black Hawk Down and one of the worst is The Hurt Locker.

Neither of the guys in my office have seen it, but a few of their friends who were SEALs said there were a couple of lols but all in all it was pretty accurate (as in not Hollywood-style). That said, it's not an action-style military movie. The Bin Laden part isn't til the very end.

  • Wait people are actually pissed off and offended with this movie?

Were you offended in the Hurt Locker when they made one single guy enjoy and miss the military in contrary to what some bimbo on Good Morning America said about the military being bad?

Were you offended in LOTR when hundreds thousands of Orcs were killed, most of them innocent, just because some of them slaughtered a village or two?

Were you offended in Ferris Buehler's Day off when he skipped school and thus made a mocker of the entire system?

It's a freaking movie. Get over it.

    Random.

But anyway, anyone that ever served in the middle east hates the Hurt Locker because it's completely unrealistic.

    But it's a good movie.

Normal white collared Americans don't care if things are 100% real or not. They care about after a long day of work or whatever, that they can come home and be entertained with a movie with little to no regard if it actually happened.

Totally agree. I liked it. But I never served. I don't know shit. But if I was there, and/or had friends die over there it just might resonate a little differently with me. Or be annoyed that this critically acclaimed "real" and "poignant" movie was in actuality Hollywood fantasy.

  • I know people were really, really mad about "Act of Valor" but I think Zero Dark Thirty is a completely different thing.

What makes me upset is people in Hollywood are just making this movie for profit.

Anyways, I didn't see Act of Valor and I'm not going to spend my money on this movie either.

What happened to the Saving Private Ryan or BlackHawk Down type movies?

You think by watching a movie you really know what they do? The seals I have had contact with don't talk much about op specifics unless we were a part of the op too. None of these types of movies I have seen have been what usually really happens.

These movies are usually highly inaccurate to promote a more dramatic scene. My military movie pet peeve is when they get uniforms wrong or kits in the wrong configuration.

Act of Valor was made with REAL Seal Soldiers and real Seal techniques.. Zero Dark Thirty has real actors and is based off of a story.

Act of Valor was a made up story but showed all kinds of techniques that our Seals use.. A LOT of soldiers were extremely upset with Act of Valor, they were saying giving away some of their techniques could get soldiers killed.
