I really have no idea what to say to you.

Like one poster said, you better hope you are right when you die. We are going to find out one way or another.

Classic. I now understand you much better. If you pursue Christ to avoid hell that is self-worship and if He's real you are screwed again. The Bible explicitly states that Faith is a gift and that the Holy Spirit has to act upon someone for them to go from an enemy of god, hostile in mind to reconciliation with him. That has not happened to me. Pray for me. Seriously, I am not so arrogant as to turn down prayer. There is just not even an inkling of expectation behind it.

Honestly, how much hubris does it take to believe that, of all the religions that have ever existed, currently exist, or will ever exist, your current interpretation is the "right" one?

To each his own. Unfortunately for one of us the truth will be revealed when we die. Either I'm right or I'm wrong. Either you're right or you're wrong. Time will tell.

Or both of us are wrong and Johny Muslim is right. Or maybe all 3 of us are wrong and Tina Morman is right. Or maybe all 4 of us are wrong and Phillip Taoist is right. Or maybe all 5 of us are wrong and Johny Satanist is right. Or maybe all 6 of us are wrong and Pardib Hindu is right. Or maybe all 7 of us are wrong and Sven NorseGod is right. Or maybe all 8 of us are wrong and Nina FlyingSpaghettiMonster is right. etc...

We are both atheists. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours

So just make up a story that cant be proven or disproven and tell the folks who dont agree that they have to or they will burn in hell. Then no matter how much time passes you can just "believe it"

What reason do you have in trying to disprove christianity or any religion for that matter? I always wonder why athiest or agnostics even debate. Christians have a purpose, whats yours?

I still want to know what happens (happened) to the native peoples who were born, lived, and died with their ancient beliefs (worshipping the sun, multiple gods, etc.) and never were introduced to Christianity. Were they just SoL? shrug

Nah bruh it's only Christ. God will bring our souls to the clouds where we drink refreshing lemonade all day. People who suck at life will like go under the earth and burn cuz they did us wrong.

How do you know I'm just "pursuing Christ to avoid hell?"

Maybe you should start reading the thread again. I'm trying to live like Christ because of what he did for me by sending his son to the cross. Do I always succeed? No. I sin everyday just like everyone, but I sure am trying.

I fully believe that you just can't "be saved." You have to realize that you are a sinner in need of Savior. One knows when the Holy Spirit is tugging on his/her heart.

All I'm saying is one of us is gonna be right and one wrong.

Thought the man asked a pretty good question. And you responded as you did to avoid having to answer it?

Personally, I'd love to disprove religion. Do you know how much pain and suffering has been and continues to be dealt out in the name of religion? Just imagine: a world with no religious condemnation of homosexuality (or any "deviant" behavior), a world with no jihad, a world with no Crusades and no constant religious war between Israel and the rest of the Muslim world - a world where women's health choices aren't dictated by antiquated doctrines, a world with no Inquisition, and a world without the church structure that covers up the rape of children.

That's the reason I have for trying to disprove religion.

No, it won't be because you suck at life. It will be because you made the decision not to accept him.

    Jeff4SC

Exactly. It means there is a very good chance of life elsewhere. But if you believe there definitely is life elsewhere, you have to exercise faith to reach that conclusion, in the absence of actual proof.

You are absolutely correct, but the conclusions you may be drawing from the analogy might be fundamentally flawed.

Yes, Apollo 11 established absolute proof that the moon wasn't made from swiss cheese. But we already had scientific "faith" that it was not. Meaning, there are hundreds of years of astronomy, chemistry, biology, mathematics, etc that would point you to one conclusion - life exists elsewhere - and merely blind faith that would lead you to the opposite. They do not exist on equal footing. Just as Creation "Science" does not carry equal weight to evolutionary biology.

How do you know He is not a trickster god that rewards incredulity? Maybe he only rewards people that don't believe in him as they have exercised the reason given to them by him to come to a logical conclusion instead of being naive. So maybe, by believing in him and accepting the hand fed stuff from the bible, you are condemning yourself to burn in a lake of fire forever. Before you answer so quickly, consider I have just as much evidence for this form of god as you do for yours.

We are both atheists. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours

Prayer always strikes me as such a narcissistic thing. Invariably, there's someone out there who has things worse than you. Clearly, God can't help everyone at once (or he would, right?) so, what kind of a person says "Yeah, forget all those starving kids in Africa or all those people with cancer, I'd like the Big Man to lay his personal blessing on this meal."?

Or, even better, what about those church leaders who ask for blessings for sports teams? Wow.

If religion was disproven I think the world would go into full depression mode. There would be a lot less sanity, and we would become inefficient. I for one have become a nealist believing nothing matters in life and eventually everything will be gone. With faith that wouldn't be the case. This world may actually be better off with people having hope for an afterlife.

Honestly, I don't care what evidence you have. Each person chooses his/her path. If one chooses to not believe that is on them.

Seriously, take a course in logic.

"You have no proof they didn't" and "God works in mysterious ways" can essentially be translated to "I'm done thinking".
