Lame. This should be a real test of endurance - if you don't come prepared, sucks to be you.

I agree. I want to see him up there after like 15 hours trying to hold one in.

BTW, Strom read the phone book. He would say. my constituent name located at read the address is very concerned about this legislation. I think he read the entire thing.

He did. Pretty awesome too. Rand should get up there and read War and Peace or something.

  • I can see him entering the top 10, but he seems too weak to take Strom. A man that could do 100 push ups at age 95 and never met a woman intern that did not sit on his lap for a picture. He is a hero of mine.

I lost a sig bet. that is why I have these sigs until November 7, 2013.

He can't do that. It must pertain to the bill or in this case confirmation. War and Peace would be hard to pass.

He is also getting a lot of good press by not doing that but talking off the cuff.

  • Agree with most here, if you're gonna filibuster it should be with whatever is in your pockets or maybe a small briefcase.

I am pulling for him, I mean staying awake for 24 hours isn't that hard, surely he can do this.

As for 100 push-ups thing, didn't Thurmond fall asleep on the floor like all the time?

Yeah but after hours of talking making cogent arguments becomes very difficult to do. He is going to need something to read to pull him over the finish.

When he got over 98, he should of retired but did not. He once asked a question in a committee meeting and the person asked him to repeat it and he said "thank you for your response". he was out of it but still a great senator.

  • How f*cked is this country when it takes a "radical" senator filibustering to even delay nominating a CIA director who thinks attacking American citizens without due process is Constitutional?

The history of the senate is a great thing that people are trying to destroy. Did you know that the senate was elected by the general assemblies of each state until 1913. The house represented the people, the senate the states. The filibuster was 75%, bc that is what it took for the constitution to be changed. It was changed to 60% later on.

Edit: totally misread your post. sorry.

He does, I think he is saying that it is sad it came to this.

The United States Senate is probably the greatest legislative body in the world, and likely greater , if not in power, but in substance and procedure, than it's namesake from the Roman Republic.

If the Dems get their way it will be nothing more than a glorified House. It is the only major legislative body I know of that allows the minority a significant say, which is why bills out of the Senate are almost always more bipartisan and moderate than out of the majority dominated House where the minority has basically no say at all.

  • From the New York Times:

"Mr. Paul [can] not leave the floor to use the bathroom, making his filibuster at a certain point seem less a standoff between Mr. Paul and the administration than a battle between Mr. Paul and his own bladder."

Alright Senator, show us how much of a man you are!
