Man, this thread turned into a conservative circlejerk pretty quickly.

and all Obama would have to do to end it is to admit it's unconstitutional to use drone strikes on American soil against non-combatants without due process.

Is AG wouldn't do it, so it's doubtful he will as well?

So the question is do you believe it's constitutional for the president to order drone strikes in this situation?

Was a list ever released on who they were? My guess would be the most center leaning Rs in the Senate.

    Senator Lindsey Graham
    Senator Bob Corker
    Senator Kelly Ayotte
    Senator John McCain
    Senator Dan Coats
    Senator Tom Coburn
    Senator Richard Burr
    Senator Mike Johanns
    Senator Pat Toomey
    Senator Ron Johnson
    Senator John Hoeven
    Senator Saxby Chambliss

The guy speaking now was there.

Surprised Obama hasn't said anything yet. 98% of his little minions probably had no idea this was even an issue. I bet these guys will last until tomorrow and the MSM can't ignore it by then.

Exactly. This went from 5 or 6 senators helping Paul, to now the GOP establishment even jumping on board. They will be there in the morning.

If they break Strom's record they will have no chance. What's happening will eventually leak on in other media like sports talk shows, daytime talk shows, and tons of blogs.

    Not at all.

Contrary to popular opinion, I don't actually agree with everything Obama does. This is one of those things that I disagree with.

Still, my opinion doesn't change the fact that this thread is a ridiculous right-wing circlejerk.

I'm going to admit something, I'm a tad bit drunk. However, Colorado not passing Jessica's Law is ridiculous. They prioritize weed over protecting children from child rapist.

Jessica's Law has some major flaws that need to be addressed before it should be passed. Don't take that as some ridiculous tacit promotion of child rape, but Jessica's Law is so flawed that even Mark Lunsford (Jessica's dad and its main advocate) didn't want any of its provisions to apply to his own son when his son was charged with a sex offense.

I respect your posts and glad you chime in. Nothing is ever accomplished only addressing issues from one perspective.

Out of curiosity, being you have a law background, do states have the authority to forbid federal drones from prodding over their airspace?

Do states under any premise have the ability to override the Patriot Act?

While arguments could be made that states have the authority to forbid federal drones in their airspace, I doubt any would prevail. It's not impossible to defy the federal government by any means, but based on the political climate that allows Guantanamo to remain in existence, I can't think of a sufficient legal argument that would actually hold up in the Supreme Court.

As for your second question, not that I know of. Admittedly, it's been a long time since I studied the Patriot Act and I'm also not a constitutional scholar, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head.

Changing the proposed law to remove its flaws would take so much reshaping and modification that it'd just end up being an entirely different proposal. "Jessica's Law" is a flawed construction that's merely a safety blanket for the general public, but doesn't actually do much at all when it comes to protecting children.
