high school football by state...

  • Anyone wanna throw out a top five or top ten for high school footbal talent per state. I will try but am open to corrections....

    1.Texas
    2.Fla
    3.Cali
    4.Georgia
    5.Ohio

1-3 are interchangable in my opinion. I could see alabama making a strong case to bump ohio. Where else is it really strong? Thoughts?

    6. Ohio
    7. South Carolina
    8. Pennsylvania
    9. Virginia
    10. New Jersey

I think you could switch and throw a few in or out in there. Like I think Alabama could be thrown in also.

    6 - Ohio
    7 - Alabama
8 - Virginia ( very under-rated by most but only has 2 main areas for great talent, rest of state sucks ass )
    9 - South Carolina
    10 - Pennsylvania

  • I wondered about south carolina but it seems they have just recently put out a lot of good players. Has south carolina always produced studs?

As for louisianna I agree they should be on the list but I wonder if it is because LSU kinda conglomerates the majority of the talent. If the talent was split up between two or more schools would we have the same opinion?

Also, I did not include penn because it seems they are a bit down from where they once were.

A lot of schools try raiding Louisiana, but the kids mostly stay home. Most states have two or more major schools, we have one, so everyone grows up cheering for LSU. We have 15 commits so far and 13 are from LA. The talent is their but not known, because they commit so early and usually to LSU

Since 2002 these are the SEC rankings by state to NFL.

    Florida 212

    Georgia 101

    Louisiana 84

    Alabama 65

    South Carolina 62

    Tennessee 37

    Mississippi 34

    Arkansas 25

    Kentucky 17

Louisiana has 84 players in the NFL currently.. The list only goes back to 2002 so it's not counting Ed Reed, Payton Manning, Reggie Wayne, etc..

That's why Louisiana is high up.

Texas, Florida, Cali are all interchangable.

After that you have Louisiana, Ohio and Georgio

Then you have your Mississippi's and Alabama's.

I would say top 4, Georgia has firmly entrenched themselves at #4 IMO

Maybe even top 5 with Louisiana having a firm grasp on #5

After that is pretty much a crap shoot but I feel confident in my top 10, that is what it should look like if you were to put together a top 10.

    1. California - 211
    2. Texas - 181
    3. Florida - 177
    4. Ohio - 85
    5. Georgia - 80
    6. Louisiana - 68
    7. Pennslyvania - 56
    8. New Jersey - 55
    9. Michigan - 53
    10. Alabama - 50

Not apples to apples in terms of what you are talking about but I think it points to the fact PA, NJ and Mich are underrated when it comes to football talent.

  • NJ has to be in the top 10. We put out a huge number of players who make it to the NFL and we have one of the best high school football teams in the country. Don Bosco may in fact be the best team in country over the past few years.

Bosco is loaded with talent this year, its crazy how good they are going to be. They kill everybody without great talent so to think what they are going to do this year is scary.

I'm glad you posted this because I wanted to see the #'s and California is right where I thought they'd be at #1 and they are about 16% higher than 2nd place.

    kldub4life

  • If using NFL numbers, I think I would lean towards a per-capita rating, with a qualifier of 3% of the total NFL players as a minimum. There are about 1700 NFL players, and 3% if roughly 50. So I would say the best is the most per-capita with a minimum of 50.

But maybe that should be balanced with the total number, which matters too.

So let's take the per-capita numbers, and make them all relative to #1. So if Louisiana is 1 at 1 in 67k, then #2 Alabama is 0.7 at 1 in 96k, #3 Florida is 0.63, etc.

We can do the same for the total numbers. #1 California is 1 with 211. #2 Texas is 0.85. #3 Florida is 0.84. etc.

We'll then add each states point total to get a value that is a balance of total players and per-capita.

    (rounded numbers)
    Per-capita
    1. Louisiana - 1 in 67k - 1
    2. Alabama - 1 in 96k - 0.70
    3. Florida - 1 in 106k - 0.63
    4. Georgia - 1 in 121k - 0.55
    5. Ohio - 1 in 136k - 0.49
    6. Texas - 1 in 139k - 0.48
    7. New Jersey - 1 in 160k - 0.42
    8. Virginia - 1 in 160k - 0.42
    9. California - 1 in 177k - 0.38
    10. Michigan - 1 in 186k - 0.36
    11. Pennsylvania - 1 in 226k - 0.30

    Total Players
    1. California - 211 - 1
    2. Texas - 181 - 0.86
    3. Florida - 177 - 0.84
    4. Ohio - 85 - 0.40
    5. Georgia - 80 - 0.38
    6. Louisiana - 68 - 0.32
    7. Pennslyvania - 56 - 0.27
    8. New Jersey - 55 - 0.26
    9. Michigan - 53 - 0.25
    10. Alabama - 50 - 0.24
    11. Virginia - 50 - 0.24

    Combined
    1. 1.47 - Florida
    2. 1.38 - California
    3. 1.34 - Texas
    4. 1.32 - Louisiana
    5. 0.94 - Alabama
    6. 0.93 - Georgia
    7. 0.89 - Ohio
    8. 0.68 - New Jersey
    8. 0.68 - Virginia
    10. 0.61 - Michigan
    11. 0.57 - Pennsylvania
