Even the new android phones won't carry flash. It's not something adobe is going to pursue and have pulled out of in mobile technology. Apple would never do flash anyways, at least not when Jobs was there. I don't see them pursuing that angle anywys but jobs was adamant about no flash on any apple products

None I don't think. Samsung and Droids were released earlier this year. Probably wouldn't expect new generations of the best smart phones for at least eight months or so.

Uh, no.
There are multiple Nexus devices coming out in under 2 months. Five in all on 4 or 5 manufacturers. Samsung, LG, HTC, and Sony are the ones i know of getting new Nexus phones before the year is up.
Nexus = stock Android as it is straight from Google, no skins, no blocked tethering, no added BS apps, updates pushed to you directly from Google not your carrier. The best Android phones you can buy (though, the S3 is awesome and still better than the new iphone).
There's also the just announced (last week) Motorola RAZR HD, RAZR HD MAXX, and RAZR M. The MAXX has a battery over twice as large as the iphone in just as thin case.

Note 2 will be fantastic. Pretty much a bigger SIII with a Stylus. I still love my Note. Just a great phone, and perfect for web surfing because of the size. Anyone that doesn't want a phone that size(5.3") I would recommend the SIII with its 4.8" screen. SIII is the best phone on the market right now, IMO, and still will be after the iPhone 5 releases. Note 2 is the next great phone, IMO.

It is interesting that they updated the hardware, but at the same time it feels stale. Maps and Passbook are the only real software additions which is kind of disappointing.
NFC would be nice, but I have a feeling that with all the security concerns over it, Apple might just skip it all together, or they are waiting until they can get a really secure version of it (just try and make an app for the iPhone and see how restricted you are in the sandbox that is the phone for security reasons). If someone wants I can provide stuff about holes in NFC, but that doesn't need to clog up this thread.
I think from here on out Apple will be behind in the phone market in terms of advancements because they want a smooth user experience for the average joe. Basically it feels like anyone should be able to pick it up and use it. E.G. grandparents using facetime to call grandchildren - my grandmother can't really use any technology, but she can use facetime to call someone if I give her my phone.
Apple also wants a seamless experience, which means more time in QA hammering out bugs. It took them 2 years to get 4G LTE into the phone.
I don't mean that as a slam against Android devices. I like Android a lot, and in some ways more than the iPhone because they can do more and are more open (much easier to develop in that environment).
I just don't think in terms of the phone market Apple will ever be out in front again. Who knows, maybe they surprise me, but today was a bit disappointing. It feels the same like the 4S, that if you are 2-3 generations of iPhone back and you still want an iPhone, then its worth the upgrade, but if you would have to pay more because you are still in contract then it isn't worth it. I think I will pass, am happy with my 4S which I only got after upgrading from the original.
