It is interesting that they updated the hardware, but at the same time it feels stale. Maps and Passbook are the only real software additions which is kind of disappointing.
NFC would be nice, but I have a feeling that with all the security concerns over it, Apple might just skip it all together, or they are waiting until they can get a really secure version of it (just try and make an app for the iPhone and see how restricted you are in the sandbox that is the phone for security reasons). If someone wants I can provide stuff about holes in NFC, but that doesn't need to clog up this thread.
I think from here on out Apple will be behind in the phone market in terms of advancements because they want a smooth user experience for the average joe. Basically it feels like anyone should be able to pick it up and use it. E.G. grandparents using facetime to call grandchildren - my grandmother can't really use any technology, but she can use facetime to call someone if I give her my phone.
Apple also wants a seamless experience, which means more time in QA hammering out bugs. It took them 2 years to get 4G LTE into the phone.
I don't mean that as a slam against Android devices. I like Android a lot, and in some ways more than the iPhone because they can do more and are more open (much easier to develop in that environment).
I just don't think in terms of the phone market Apple will ever be out in front again. Who knows, maybe they surprise me, but today was a bit disappointing. It feels the same like the 4S, that if you are 2-3 generations of iPhone back and you still want an iPhone, then its worth the upgrade, but if you would have to pay more because you are still in contract then it isn't worth it. I think I will pass, am happy with my 4S which I only got after upgrading from the original.

Depends I guess. Do you have an Apple computer? Having other Apple technology helps in the seamless department especially with iCloud.
That being said they are different, and even the UI could be the deciding factor for some people because not everyone will get the full benefit of either phone. Go try out both in stores first and see what feels most comfortable. Don't choose solely on tech specs or advances unless you are going to use something often enough to make it the deciding factor IMO. Sorry I can't go either way. I have an iPhone for personal and a Galaxy for work if that helps out but that was my preference. Each can do the other function ie iPhone for work or Galaxy for personal.

What does that even mean? Look at the specs. Look at the capabilites. IPhones are great for people that don't want much from a phone. My grandma just got the iPhone 4. Android is for people that want the most out of their phone. IPhone 5 hasn't released yet, and the SIII is better than it.

I'm personally disappointed the iPhone screen is getting bigger. I don't get why people have to show off having a big screen. I want my mobile phone to be, you know, mobile. My buddy has to keep his in his backpack because it won't fit in his pocket. No thanks.
And I don't understand how being able to change the keyboard and theme make the phone any better??MarineMountie ●

once you start using Swype keyboard (a replacement keyboard, there's literally hundreds of different kinds) on Android, you'll never go back. you don't even need to look at the phone to type because you don't even type. you just slide you thumb around and it knows what you want to say

Speech to text has gotten a lot better since the original droid had it. Another great quality for android that iPhone hasn't used.
They're late to the game with those things like turn by turn, speech, panaramic pics, now pics while filming.

Customization, web surfing options, bigger screen, super amoled screen which I like better than retina display...
Customization the biggest thing. Everything from keyboard(hundreds of options for free) to themes for the phone. I can completely change the way my phone looks and operates in a second. IPhone is set in its ways unless you jailbreak, but you can root an android to have even more capabilities. I had iPhone for 2 years. Switched to Android and the Galaxy Note and gave myself a swift kick in the juts for waiting so long.

If you have to ask, that means you have no experience with android, and are just being a fan boy. If you would actually sit down with an android, work with it and explore the capabilities, you would know that iPhone is store brand while android is the real thing.
Lets not even go into the specs of the phones in which Google dominates the market.
