Where can I sign up to be a volunteer electrion? I think most of the volunteers up there are being sent to the marathon this weekend. That along with the firemen, police officers and generators.

Unions pretty much ruined the manufacturing base in this country. If I only had to work for 3hrs to satisfy my "quota" for 8hrs, then why should I work for 8hrs? Unions were great before OSHA, but now are antiquated and thuggish.

uh, bs. you can't do ANYTHING in ny/nj, even for free, that a union worker is slated to do. HATE doing conventions in nyc for just that reason.

My first trip to New Jersey in 1990 I stayed at a Embassy Suites that was 5 stories. The elevator had an operator. I asked the guy why in the Hell did it take a guy in the elevator to push a button. Union was all he said.

This is very true. I used to do a lot of consultant work and at times, some of my jobs were with hotels. I remember walking with a General Manager at a hotel in DC and there being a spill on the floor. He wasn't even allowed to clean it up or even place a wet floor sign there because that would be interferring in the work of a union employee. The thought process is that if there is a reason for anyone from management to do anything outside of their normal duties then there is a need to hire another union employee. There is a place for unions and then there are the unions that are being set up so that lawyers and others involved with a certain union or union group is allowed to stay in business. It is really sad some of the lies that they spread in order to get employees on board.

Most of these people end up losing money in the end as well out of the process.

I hear you, but I don't think it says as much about the country as it does about that part of the country. Unions are not out to help anyone but themselves and they are primarily focused in that area of the country. As unions continue to shrink, they are going tobecome more desperate over time and there are going to more "wacky" instances like this one.

Work specification agreements are a complete and utter joke. Like BetterOff said, its a sign of desperation.
