wonder what CMXI and BLF have to say...

    edit: good timing

I've already said how I feel in other threads, but a quick summary:

Unions should be adaptable or eff off. Collective bargaining should only be for things that are uniform in nature (like healthcare compensation or time off). Otherwise, it is counterproductive.

Every day I pass by signs outside of various buildings with union folks holding up signs that say "(Company X) destroys families". The implication is they did work without over-paying a union, instead opening the job for bids like normal people do. Families were destroyed as a result.

Yeah, I know how it works. It's pretty childish.

What's sad is that there is some Ivy League lawyer paying bums to do that to begin with.

Unions don't care about the individual. Before the Union came in, John Doe was allowed to work 10 hours of overtime around Christmas so help pay for his family's holiday season. Then a Union came in and convinced John that they were going to get him an extra $1 per hour to do the same job. "Hell yeah!" said John. Then, he got his paycheck and he saw the extra line that were his Union Dues. The extra $1 per hour was negated to what came out to about $1.10 per hour in dues. Then, when he asked for the same overtime for the holiday season, he was informed that overtime was no longer allowed by the Union. If the company needed more than 40 hours a week from any employee, then they would need to hire another Union employee which would mean more Union dues that what John Doe was paying by himself. John and his family lost out on the deal.

That is the problem with about 60% of the Union activity in this country. There are definitely areas in which their services are needed, but more times than not, the worker is the big loser.

  • Very sore spot for me too. When the Unions were formed they were formed for the right reasons, because employers were taking advantage of the employees. quickly though, that turned into a power hungry group of thugs that basically turned into the MOB - all in the name of "helping the little guy who doesn't have a voice at the table".

the problem is, it's 2012 and we have laws and rules in this country that take care of the things the employers were doing. we don't need them.

I actually have a "friend" on Facebook that posted this bull crap.

"instead of paying your bills online, go buy a book of stamps, as that will fuel a good postal job and not contribute to the downturn of the Postal Service"

so now, unions are advocating the "non use of technology" to do a job. let's just go back to 1800 shall we Dork Bags and get to pulling buggies with horses so we can unionize farms and create horse janitors for cleaning up poop - because that's a great family supporting job.

what a crock - I purposely don't buy stamps. the postal service needs to go away. sorry if you are a postal worker, you ought to be updating your resume and learning something else right now.

Here's what I have to say.

Huntsville, Joe Wheeler utilities deny claims of union discrimination during Sandy response (update)

Two area utility systems - Huntsville Utilities and Joe Wheeler Cooperative - mentioned in media reports claiming their crews were not allowed to help with storm aid in New Jersey because they were non-union said this morning the story is untrue.
