Without cam and Gus chizik is an average coach. What happens the year before cam and the year after. This year will be worse for them

I think Mullen is a good coach and shared that with the Penn St guys when he was a possibility for them, but Auburn did beat a much better Miss St team this past season.

Miss St is a tough place to win and Mullen should be commended for having consistantly solid teams the past few years for sure.

Personally I think the job chizik did in '09 was better than '10. The '09 and '11 teams had no business winning more than 6 games, IMO.

Isn't part of being a HC getting top players and coaches? Can't blame him for that.

Didn't Chizik hire Gus? Didn't Chizik ultimately get Cam to sign with Auburn? Just because Urban had Dan Mullen and Tebow under him doesn't mean he should be ranked horribly.

Although never could be proved it was 180000 that got cam signed

Exactly. What happened to Florida without them?

Meyer would be a top five coach in this ranking.... I think Mullen is a decent coach but he isn't top five in the SEC. IMO you got to compete for the division at least once in the three years to be considered in the top five. Les is better than Mullen IMO. You don't go to 2 BCS championships and win 2 SEC titles without being a pretty good SEC coach. I don't care what school you are at either.

If you would put Mullen with that lsu team they would have beat bama and everyone else. Mullen is a good coach. Haters gone hate

    This is a ludicrous statement.

You mean the church they couldn't renovate until Cam signed a deal with under armour?

Any of the last 5 teams. Les miles is not a good coach imo. With all the talent he has every year its ridiculous not to be in a bcs bowl game every year

Saban has ridiculous talent on his teams also. More than Miles does. Does that mean he isn't a good coach? Miles recruits very well and wins. They have stayed at the top of the SEC since he has been there. MSU hasn't got into the top 3 in the West and Mullen is better than Miles?

  • Miles has been at LSU for 7 years. During that time his lowest finish in the SEC West is 3rd. He has also finished the season only unranked once in his stint at LSU. 5 times he finished in the top ten rankings out of his 7 year stint. 4 times in the top 5. So over half of his stint at LSU he has finished top 5 in the nation and he isn't a good coach? Saban (who I agree is the best coach in the SEC) hasn't had 4 top five finishes in his whole career as a HC. Mark Richt in his 11 years at Georgia hasn't had that many top fives. Spurrier is the only coach in the SEC with more top five finishes that Miles. He didn't have as many top five finishes as Miles in his first 7 years as Florida's HC.

    preaching to the chior.

You can credit some of Miles's success the first 2, maybe 3 years to what Saban did, but eventually you have to give him credit for keeping it there.

If it was so easy Zook would still be at Florida and Solich would still be at Nebraska.

Yep. Just the idea that Miles isn't a good coach bothers me.

All valid points. The Mullen thing is what really bothers me..beat someone in the West other than Ole Piss and then maybe I'll let you in the room to have this conversation. Until then, STFU.

    Solid point.

Honestly though, saying Saban, Miles, Petrino, and Chizik are better shouldn't be insulting. That's 5 BCS Championships and Petrino.

When it all boils down to it our opinion doesn't really count. Its more than just this article that has said Mullen is a good coach so it must be something to it. We went from 2 and 3 win seasons to Mullen winning 9 games and taking us to back to back bowls, that's is amazing in itself

    Man!

I think Auburn owes the man the world.

What he did after the DB era is amazing. Auburn could haven fallen off like Ole Miss did if it wasn't for him and Bo.

Yes I remember. I used to wonder why he is still allowed around the program like he is and why they named the field after him, but I guess I stopped caring.

  • I'm way more impressed with what SOS has done than Saban.

Just because LSU and Bama were down when Saban arrived, they had long been established as distinguished power players on the national scene way before Saban arrived. All he did was rekindled and stoke an already well built fire. His predecessors had already loosened the lid for him.

Get back to me when Saban proves he can significantly reverse the fortunes of an all time train wreck program like SOS has. stir
