It needs to be rewritten in a civil manner by both parties.

Screw civility. Doing the wrong thing in a civil manner is still wrong. This bill needs to be shredded and pissed on by one party, both parties, or any party who actually has Americans' best interest in mind.

I mean, that's a blog. It's one man's (well-educated, definitely) opinion. IIRC there are still two more sessions the court has to hear.

I can already tell you, its getting shot down.

Usually things that are unconstitutional get shot down when brought before the Supreme Court. Hope you're right. I admit, there's things that need to be revamped for the sake of minors but giving people healthcare that don't work, don't contribute bothers me. It may sound mean and cruel but I can't help it. Maybe some bill can get passed and all uninsured children get healthcare and insurance companies can't drop existing patients when sh*t hits the fan? I'm not sure what can be done but forcing everyone to get insurance isn't the answer. Even Obama agreed with that once.

  • Isn't that great? Now, my children living at home cannot be on my insurance until 26. Now, any insurer can go back to denying children their coverage for preexisiting xconditons as well as adults. Now, I have to continue to pay out of my nose for every individual who goes to the emergency room and is not uinsured in the first place. Yeah, this is great news. I could go on but that about sums it up for me.

That said, who knows what truly is in the mind of these justices. Does Roberts really want another Bush V Gore on his hands which shows the Supreme Court as nothing more than about politics? I am not so sure as he was pretty strong in his language previously that he does not want his court seen that way. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

You really think a 26 year old child needs to stay on your insurance?

What fkin idiot would actually think a 26 year old should be on his parents' insurance. In fact, shouldn't that parent be more concerned with getting the damn freeloader out of the house than how his medical bills get paid?

Wait...was that Barney's dad you just replied to?

Has to be GoingLightBarny's dad. Sounds just like the kind of loser who would raise a kid like him.

Dude, he DOESN'T NEED TO BE ON YOUR INSURANCE!!!

  • You obviously don't have a kid who is 24 and trying to find a job after college and working part time just to pay for their car and insurance. Good for you. Thousands and thousands of others are not so lucky. What about the money I have to pay out of my pocket for the ER patients who walk in with no insurance. Where the hell do you think that money comes from? I guess you are fine with kids being denied coverage from these sleazy insurance companies because they have a preexisitng condition. What a guy you must be.

Get over your dislike for Obama and look at the law and what it does for so many people and how it benefits so many. I am not crazy about a mandate but I sure do not want to pay for millions who will not or cannot buy insurance.

    matty177

  • Look, I know as well as many others that this is all about politics and nothing more. 40 million will continue to be uninsured in this country if this law gets taken down. I am sick and tired of paying for that. I am sick and tired of no politician who has a better plan and just spits out the same talking points.

You don't even have a clue how the health insurance system works. Stop bitching about something you can't understand. Getting the government to force a company to put your son on your plan is a surefire way to make everyone else pay for what your son receives...the result is exactly what you're bitching about the problem being now. Where do you think that money would come from?

But you're going to be Paying more in tax dollars for those uninsured to be insured. This mandate Is nothing more than national healthcare wrapped in a nice package. Obama/Romney, whoever, knows that those 40 Million still aren't gonna be able to pay for wealth insurance. Probably 20 million of those can't afford the extra 25 bucks a week for 6 gallons of gas. This new proposed law is only for the next law that would come after. National Health Care that is free or at least free to freeloaders.

And I don't want to pay for your son's insurance. You're the one spitting out talking points. This isn't at all about "politics". It is about the Constitution and keeping the federal government from overstepping its bounds. If you have a problem with that, then fk you.

It is amazing to me that some people can't grasp a simple concept like this. Health care costs money and good health care costs lots of money. Why? Because it is WORTH it. If anyone thinks there is some sneaky way we can get it for free, that person just isn't very smart. We're going to pay for it one way or another. Ally this lie of a health care plan does is change when/how we pay for it. In the end, though, the main way we would pay is through reduced quality.

Actually, you already pay for his son's insurance. CHP (Children's Health Protection) plans have been adopted in most states, so that any child receives essentially taxpayer-funded medical care until they are 18 if they have no other insurance. The Affordable Care Act would actually reduce the burden on you personally.

I'd also like to know, and please remember that I'm not bashing you or your son but.....has your son seemed employment at places like Home Depot, Lowes, etc? I'm sure that's not in your sons great plan in life but that might be a great fill in job until he finds what he's looking for with his degree? There's plenty I places that pay a living wage while also providing insurance coverage.

Sweet! Here is the obligatory "the government already overstepped it's bounds once so we might as well let them do it again" argument. Of course, you applied it wrong, but I will give you an A for effort.

Extending insurance coverage from 21 to 26 doesn't dramatically increase costs.

People who are 24 and have insurance tend to be healthy and cheap for insurance companies.

The problem is when people are 24 and don't have insurance. They put off purchasing insurance until they develop a chronic condition, and something that could have been prevented with a $150 checkup turns into a $10,000 medical bill.

False. If this were the more cost effective approach, insurance companies would have adopted this model years ago. I think they would have figured it out if this were the case. They aren't stupid, but voters are.
