  • You clearly don't understand what I'm talking about pink sock. I'm not talking about any of that. I'm talking about how natural market effects(a.k.a nothing to do with government intervention)are going to drive up your costs and then you will bitch about it and want someone(not necessarily government)to do something. You are arguing this broad based idea that is not even near what I'm talking about.

I'll be honest, I've been talking about this topic with my dad for years and we're both at a loss for a solution. If the government steps in or if we let it continue as it has, costs will simply continue to rise. It's really an industry that's out of control at this point. But what can people do? Stop paying for it if it's too expensive? It's not a car or fast food, it's health insurance and you're well being. It's a necessity.

    IMO: single-payer.

  • The other problem is there really isn't a lot of competition as far as choices for insurance companies goes, at least not in Alabama (I don't know how it is in the rest of the U.S.). Here's it's basically BCBS or nothing which, in turn, allows them to set their own prices regardless of the market. It's a small-scale monopoly.

I would be more than happy to foot the bill for the sub-par health care you liberals think you deserve if there were only a way to do that without reducing the quality of my own care. One thing is for sure. You'd all die off a lot faster if you could have your way.

That's interesting. I know of at least three options here.

We can do whatever the fuck we want and still be better than everyone else. SP would be no different.

  • It just occurred to me that there are two liberals on this page wanting the government to take over healthcare. One is arguing that the government needs to step in because there are too few insurance providers and the other is arguing that it is because there are too many. That is fkn awesome!

You don't know what you are even talking about. SP is not socialized medicine.

But I'm right. Single payer is not socialized medicine.

Can you explain SP so I can make sure we're on the same page before I comment?

    No. You're wrong, as always.

  • SP is where we all pay in one big pool that's administered at the state or local level by one entity. Correct?

Isn't that fundamentally like Social Security?

That's socialism at its core and we've seen how that works. It would be bankrupt in 15 years.

Single-payer would essentially be Medicare-for-all. Most simple way to explain it.

And you don't consider that socialism? I'm not being condescending, so don't take it wrong. Just curious. And if no, can you explain how it's not?

Be sure to ask lots of questions. There is still a LOT you think you understand but have no clue about. Asking questions is the best way to clear up those misconceptions.

Truth. There may still be hope for him yet. I doubt it, but there could be. Of course, a lot will depend on what class he's going to. Asking questions in his music/art appreciation and women's history classes won't help him any and I doubt he's open minded or intelligent enough to be taking business or engineering courses.

I am not-so-patiently awaiting this reply. It should be a dandy!
