I've heard it's hard as hell to get into, but I'm debating changing my major to Sports Management, with a minor or double major in History to go along with it. Both my "passions" in one. Would you recommend it?

If I could do it all again I would have majored in Logistics. You can do anything transportation related with that degree.

Sports Management is pretty easy. I only recommend it if you have an "in" in your school's athletic department or if you wanna work a lot of crappy internships in professional sports. After that you may get what you want.

I worked two years in minor league baseball. It was definitely fun but a lot of work. Late hours. Long weekends. Getting into the pros can be tough... unless you have worked a lot of internships or have a lot of experience. I kind of just gave up and started looking for any sales related gig. My last two interviews before I landed my current job were with the Atlanta Hawks and the San Diego Padres.

I'm now working for Denver Mattress making $20,000 more than I was in baseball. It's commission based but it's uncapped.

  • FSC Certification

In the wood products industry the way a company proves it is "green" is by seeking a third party certification, FSC is the standard. For the consumer to purchase a product as FSC certified, every company along the chain of custody must be certified. I manage the certification for a little over 2 dozen wood product companies. The accounts I manage range from sawmills to digital printing companies. I handle everything from initial certification to logo approval.

Thanks for the answers, man. I actually DO have sort of an "in" with the Athletic department, that I'm hopefully going to take advantage of soon.

Honestly, I cannot tell people what I do for a living. I can say I work for USG, though.

Hmmm... Just curious, in casual conversation do you ever tell people you work for "the state department"?

Negative. Typically, I just tell them I work at the local Air Force Base. That usually suffices for conversation. If I could say, it would be very complicated. Technically, I do not work for just the United States. Travel is a bish for me, but duty calls.....

Roger that. It's just always amused me how many people who work for/at the CIA like to throw out that tired 'state department' line. It's the same as saying "Look at me! I work for the CIA! Are you not suitably impressed?"

Some people just need validation, I guess. It is amusing. I have friends who work top level security and they are always funny too (espcially the LEO guys).

The ones who really do the work are the ones you would never assume from every day conversation....at least that has been my experiences with them. Most don't like to talk about work away from work...and some don't like to talk about work while at work.

Would love to pick the brain of the guy who went to St. Scholastica, I'm hoping for Madison or La-Crosse at the moment.
