so does this settle ND-Stanford for the haters?

  • RT @ralphDrussoAP: Nat'l coord. for officials says of last play of Stanford-ND he "would have to let that call stand." http://bit.ly/Rz6cZJ

  • Nope. Referees have never admitted when they made bad calls

  • Nope. Mike Pereira > Roger Redding.

"@MikePereira: We have looked at ND/STA last play from every angle & feel that it is a TD. Progress was not ruled & runner was not down. Ball broke plain."

  • Do you really think everyone is just a ND hater? ND isn't even on my radar, but I watched the game, and it looked like a TD to me.

I got no dog in fight. I could leess about either team. There is no way on Gods green Earth that without a whistle, that wasn't a clear(by 1/2 foot) TD. As bad a call as you will ever see, as it was painfully obvious, reviewed, yet not changed. Only question was did he maintain possession as he went over the goal line, well stanford recovered in end zone so its a moot point.

I think it was a TD.

Now, if someone says he lost control before breaking the plain, but Stanford recovered, I don't believe you can advance a fumble. If he fumbled it outside of the endzone and a Standford player recovered it in the endzone, the ball would be spotted at the point of where control was lost.

sidenote: I may be getting the NFL rule on advancing a fumble mixed up with the NCAA rule.

He was the Senior Director of Officiating for the NFL, you homer. I trust his eye more than practically any other person in the world of football.

Continue on with your conspiracy theory if you want though.

Oh, and the downvote brigade is really cute. You guys really don't handle criticism well.

  • Here is something frame by frame, and while I agree with the last statement on the link, that the play was stopped too early, it is clear that the defense stopped playing and THEN Taylor got in. The defense stopped playing due to the whistle being blown, signalling the end of the play. Play to the whistle, not 5 seconds after it.

If the refs would have let the play develop a little more before blowing the whistle, I dont think we are having this discussion because Teo doesnt stop pushing and start jumping, but I agree it was stopped too early especiallly for being the last play of the game.

He is stupid then because progress WAS CALLED. And a whistle was blown. He also had an elbow hit the ground before ball crossed the goalline. Game over. peace

Why the hell would this solve anything?

The refs screwed the pooch, Notre Dame benefited.

How did Notre Dame benefit by the whistle being blown early? Were we watching the same play where Taylor was stacked up until Teo and others started celebrating?

Don't get me wrong, I think the whistle went early as well, but if you watch, Taylor was stuffed, and if the play continued Teo is not letting him squirm in.no

Which makes it even more credible because Pac12 refs worked the game. So, he is criticizing his own people.

Cause the whistle ended the play before it was over.

The rest of what you said is opinion/hypothetical.

The refs screwed Stanford. Notre Dame benefited from the screw-job.

Why because Taylor reached the ball across the goal line after the play was over?

The refs determined his forward progress stopped. Just because he could move forward after the whistle does not mean his forward progress was not stopped. By the time Taylor was reaching across the goal line, Te'o was 2 steps away celebrating.

Dude we've won 5 of the last 7 games. WE threw 6 picks and barely lost.

WE have have no "ND" complex other than used to whipping that ass.

You beat us once on homefield and are 6-0. Get your chirping in now, cuz you about to get butt raped by Okie and USC. Especially USC.

I fugging hate the Trojans, but I'm #1 SC fan during that week. Can't wait until they tap that ass, trolling will be on full force.

  • National coordinator of officials Rogers Redding told the AP in a phone interview Tuesday there was nothing unusual about the way officials on the field or in the replay booth handled the decisive play.

He also says that from the replay he saw, he "would have to let that call stand."

"Most of the comments I heard were, 'It looked like to me that' or 'It sure looked like this.' The replay official has to say, 'There is no doubt in my mind.'"

Redding said a runner's progress is reviewable only on plays that could produce first downs or touchdowns.

So in the case of the last play of Notre Dame's goal line stand against the Cardinal, the fact that Taylor was lying on a pile of defenders and his knees were never down, or that one of his elbows might have touched the turf before he stuck the ball into the end zone, should have been irrelevant to the replay officials.

Only the runner's progress being stopped was reviewable, Redding said. Replay officials don't have access to audio and cannot determine whether a whistle has blown the play dead.

Notre Dame players and coach Brian Kelly contended that Taylor's last reach came after the play was blown dead. A couple of Notre Dame players, including Manti Te'o, could be seen on replays starting to celebrate right before Taylor put the ball across the line.

Redding did say that replay officials can use field officials' signals as visual evidence of when a play has been stopped. On one replay angle, the side judge could be seen moving toward the pile of players to spot the ball, just as Taylor made his last reach.

"He's not going to charge in unless he's sure in his mind that the play is over," he said. "That's another indicator that the play is dead."
