so if we switch to the minimum government mandated insurance

  • will we be treated like people with welfare insurance and have interns do surgerys on us and get the sh$#% side of the hospital? Or will we be treated the same as with our current too expensive insurance?

I am pretty sure you know the answer to that.

I am for the new healthcare bill, although not for the entire thing and I surely have some unanswered questions.

My main problem with it is that the only people that are exempt from the plan are the politician, justices, and the President that passed the Bill. It is either not equal or they at least know that it is not something that they want to have to take part in.

  • If you aren't on Medicaid or Medicare, you are purchasing private insurance.

If it's the minimum coverage that said insurer provides, it's the minimum coverage.

I am not exactly for it, but if it helps drive down healthcare cost significantly over the next 15-20 years it will be a success

That is kind of my stance as well. I don't like the government telling people what they have to do, but if they are going to still take care of the people that decide not to take care of themselves, then I am for it.

I think a lot of people think that it is going to hurt their healthcare and they are a little misinformed.

I know absolutely nothing about this healthcare bill.

I know that my relatives in Australia still carry health insurance and so do many over there. They have told me it works out much better than using the public healthcare system. Really don't know why though.

I'm worried about it hurting the quality of my healthcare.

More people insured isn't going to drive down quality. Those healthcare companies are going to expand and hire more people to compensate.

They really don't even have to do that. They are still caring for the people as it is. They are just not getting paid for it and that cost is being passed along to the insured.

Which could be bad because you don't maintain a relationship with a doctor because they will not work as often.

LOL, except the cost of healthcare will not go down.

The government cannot even deliver mail without losing billions. What makes you think they can handle something that makes up 1/5 of the economy?

    This.

Healthcare professionals making less money will push more intelligent people towards a different profession. The money is why they endure the schooling, not the satisfaction of helping a life unfortunately. I'm not going to med school because of the risk of a lower pay and the schooling isn't worth it without the money. I know dozens of others that feel the same way and chose a different profession. Doctors are already talking of finding alternatives to maximize income during this bullshit.

  • I bet there will be a number of doctors who, due to lower profits, will lower the quality of their healthcare. There are also plenty of doctors like my father who take pride in their profession and will continue to give the highest quality healthcare they can because they're real doctors.

The government delivers mail as a public service. That is the point, they aren't supposed to make a profit but make it affordable for it's citizens.

    Another LOL.

Taxpayer money going into a black hole. A private ocmpany could handle mail delivery much better.

If you think healthcare costs are going DOWN in the next 15 years I have some oceanfront property in West Virginia to sell you.

Anyways, they are at least supposed to break even, not lose billions upon billions.

  • Or maybe it will make it more competitive because the difference in pay between a good doctor and a bad doctor will increase

but it's not doctors pay that is the issue, it's the over priced medication and equipment compared to most other countries in the world

And a private company would charge an arm and a leg (talking about the USPS). Not everyone in this country can be rich. The world needs ditch diggers, too. Should they not have affordable access to things like this?

A private company isn't going to service rural areas at the same price.

There are some things that are a public good, a civic service that are better not handled by the private sector.

You just stated that healthcare quality isn't going to go down. You have deemed everything you say irrelevant since you don't know what you are talking about.

Go look at the quality of healthcare in this country compared to any other country with universal healthcare.

You are comparing apples and oranges.

The reason USPS is such a problem is union contracts that were made for boom times and now are unmanageable.

If you take those out and leave the rising cost to compensate for lack of consumer (more people using other means of communication), the USPS would be about where it's always been--- a non-profit public service.
