  • I am starting this so we can have a running conversation about beer. Instead of having new threads all of the time I would like to keep it all in here if possible. I also think we should do this with subjects like Netflix and other topics that pop up all of the time. What do you guys think? Is this a good idea?

Very nice. I had a Stone Ruination and Brooklyn Chocolate Stout. Both were very good.

  • I feel I love beer more than anyone, but have been burned many times buying an unfamiliar sixer, getting all the way home and cracking one of these badboys open only to find out Im drinking like clammed tomatoe pumkin pie crap and of course Im not going to throw out a $10 sixer so I drink every miserable sip. Now I only buy pbr or bud heavy so tonight give me a beer I can find in north AL and I'll take your word for it a drink it and if it taste like shit Im punching you in the face.

Do you like IPA's? If so, see if you can get Dogfish Head 90 minute or Midas Touch. Also had Sierra Nevada Hopsecutioner last night and it was pretty good. If you like IPA's I think you would like these.

Great idea Aussie. I live in Florida so I cant get Fat Tire here but its definitely my favorite. Right now I am stuck on Magic Hat #9, but do not limit myself just to that. I enjoy all of The Sam Adams Seasonals as well as my Yeungling (Old Faithful).

Yuengling is one of my favorites... too bad i cant get it here in Indiana

  • If you find yourself in Minnesota, I advise you to try Surly. Anything and everything. They have really made some quality stuff. It's rather expensive, comes in 4 packs of 16oz cans, and most are liberal with the alcohol content. Probably the best stuff I've had. Too bad they only distribute in Minnesota, cause they'd catch fire in other states. Among some of the best beers in the country.

What are your thoughts on Summit? I was out in Minneapolis for a conference and remember thinking it was pretty good stuff.

  • Pretty much everything from the Great Lakes Brewing Company is good. Two of my favorites:

    Conway's Irish Ale
    Christmas Ale

  • RE: SUMMIT BREWING

They brew some great beers. The IPA is solid. They've made some interesting small batch stuff this last year, most notably the RyePA, which was really good. Have an acquaintance that does the Summit tours on the weekends and has made for a fun, albeit drunken, weekend event. They more or less started the MN brewer phenomenon we are now experiencing back in the early 80's. It's a great town to live in as far as that is concerned. Have many friends who brew and a couple that work at a local brewing supply store. Another buddy started the St. Paul Summer Beer Festival that is in its third year this summer. I set myself up nicely in terms of drinking well. Shit....life is good!

Yea I really liked their IPA. We stayed downtown at the Hilton and went out every night to Brit's Pub and I thought it was a pretty cool bar. I really liked downtown Minneapolis. It was very clean for such a big city, at least the part I was in. The cab driver told me the only real downfall to living there was that the winters are beyond miserable.

  • After reading this thread I really feel like a 24 year old. I started drinking budlight at 16 and still drink it today. I have tried different types from America and Mexico, but never liked any. I guess I'm to young to know good taste when it comes to beer.

I am 23 and love good beer and like to drink cheap beer too. It depends on the occasion though. If I am tailgating at a game all day or at the lake then I'll drink Natty Light. If I am at dinner or only plan on having a few beers then I like to drink the good stuff.

  • Living in the Northwest I am spoiled by great beers since we have a lot of hops grown up here. We have the most micro-breweries per capita I think in the world.

    Pliny the young and elder
Great White from Lost Coast on occasion
Drop Top Amber from Widmer is good
Smaller brewery called Oakshire has some tremendous beers, the Amber is my fave, but the IPA is smooth too.
Walkabout is another local guy I get kegs from. Great Aussie style flavor with smooth ingredients.

My buddy really like a beer called Paulaner that is imported. Comes in 22's. It's good, not my fave though.

Brits is great in the summer. Head there occasionally in the winter. I live about a block up Nicolette on the Greenway (bike/walking thoroughfare). They've got lawn bowling in the summer and a couple tiers of bars (outside deck) on top of the inside two stories. I could see where people think that the winter's get a bit long, but it's all about getting outside and enjoying it. I love the cold. I love to ski, winter camp, snowshoe, etc. If you stay indoors all winter I could imagine it getting VERY long. Moving here from Nebraska, I would have to say the thing that stood out most to me is Minnesotans take advantage of the seasons, unlike my brethren in Neb. Once it gets nice out, everyone is outside. It's quite amazing, actually. The parks and lakes are literally filled with people enjoying the outdoors. Jogging, canoeing, kayaking, kiteboarding, sailing, hanging out, picnicking, you name it. It's awesome. I really like it here.

  • Am really into Blast right now and the 12 percent alcohol helps get the job done plus the can is huge and a variety of flavors.
